ATTENTION - The Valdez Museum of Video Game Box Art has issued a request for information regarding a "Mr. X", formerly believed to be a benign contributor and donor to the latest Top 60 Enemies exhibit. We are currently taking any and all information regarding his efforts to infiltrate the contest in the official thread. We would greatly appreciate any assistance.

um wait wez stilz unpurrs atack??????? why dis entrees happn???????

Donors had this to say:
A slime but not in a RPG and also made out of metal. So many varieties over the years its hard to pick a favorite. If forced to choose I’d either go with the Met Dispensers in 6 or the the ones disguised as 1-ups in 9. ~ Lokii
These annoying guys are invulnerable half the time by hiding inside their cute helmets. Cute and deadly! ~ Positronic Brain
A walking gun with eyes and a hardhat. They feel slightly mischievous. They're also the best because they're easy to draw. ~ Dracula
Iconic and cute. Their invincibility would be annoying but they aren't too hard to kill when they are vulnerable. Unlike some other Mega Man enemies. *glares at Sniper Joe* ~ Torzelbaum
Just a really well designed enemy. just the right amount of challenging. They are adorable and come in many forms ~ nataeryn

Dracula

Plastic Vampire
(He/His)
I think one of the most clever parts of the Met's design, at least when encountered on NES, is how it takes advantage of sprite limits. Mega Man can only have three shots on screen at once, and if he hits a Met's helmet, the shot goes flying off the screen. But when it's flying away, it still counts as being "there." So if you get impatient and pump a Met full of lemons as soon as you see it, they'll all bounce off, and when it pops up to shoot your ass, all your shots are still on screen, and you won't have a chance to retaliate until it's too late. I feel like fighting so many Mets in Mega Man games was one way video games taught me patience as a kid.

Also the Mr. X stage theme is my ringtone.

Find Your Reason
(He/Him)
My first Mega Man was 2, where disturbing a Met would make it pop up and charge you, so that's the kind of behavior I got used to. I didn't play MM1 until long after I had gotten into the X games, so the original Met that only raises its helmet a bit, looks at you with lazy eyes, and shoots, is always hilarious to me.

Incidentally, from the MM Wiki:

Neo Metall

The Neo Metall (ネオメットール Neo Mettōru) is an upgrade of the Met from Mega Man 2. It now has feet and can walk. Due to its appearance, it is popular with young girls.

I don't know whether that last sentence is an in-universe thing or a real-life thing but it's amusing nonetheless.

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
I figured either Goombas, Slimes or this guy would take the top spot.

I had a Tips and Tricks book about Mega Man when I was tiny that described Mets as looking "like Sesame Streets Grover" and that has never left me, because it is a baffling comparison to make

It makes sense, because if you shoot Grover, your shot would bounce off of his helmet.

OK - here's another possible lead for you:

Beta Metroid

At peace
(he/him)
For some reason I had it in my head that Mets had already come up...huh. Well, they totally make sense as #1. I'm stunned Lynels didn't make the list at all, given how integral they are to the Breath of the Wild experience.

But Mets are really neat! I love that one fortress level in Mega Man 4 that's Oops, all Mets! I also enjoy that many classic Mega Man enemies have "future" counterparts in Mega Man X (with one stray bat exception), but Mets are just completely unchanged. It gives the impression that they're the roaches of the Mega Man universe, resilient and unfazed by the cataclysmic events that led from the classic series to X (but adorable roaches, like in Wall-E).
