Not Actual Gameplay - The Video Game Trailers Thread

The Suicide Squad game looks like it could be fun.
My one hope is that you get disposable NPC allies (and sometimes hinderances) based on z-list DC villains.
It definitely looks like a movie I would watch in a heartbeat. I gotta see actual gameplay though before I let myself fall in love.

Gotham Knights though looks so freaking good. The game could play like ass, but just getting to do coop with friends through what looks like a really fun story, has me very here for this.* I really like the conceit that Batman is dead, and now it's time for the rest of the family to step up and take center stage. I've long considered the whole extended Batfamily to be Batman's greatest strength as a character. It's always good to see stuff like this.

*A concept I wish more game devs understood. It turned a mediocre game like AssCreed: Unity into one of my all-time favorites.

I hope it's good, but it really is hard to tell from a cinematic. I do hope they keep each character having their unique movement power and skill set shown in the trailer. It's also got my favorite characterization of Boomerang - I'm getting too old for this shit scumbag.

Some people online: Man, a lot of DC's stuff is a little too dour for me
DC: Here's our new Batman game where Batman is dead and our Suicide Squad game where you kill the Justice League

(I'm interested in both)

I don't want to be one of those Switch fanboys that always goes "This should be on Switch!" at any game that catches their interest, but...

This should be on Switch. Srsly.

I have zero problem being one of those Switch fanboys. I want everything on Switch. Every game ever made.

Ubisoft released another trailer for their recently-retitled Greek mythological Breath-of-the-Wild-'em-up, Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Giving the trailer a funk score is definitely a choice, and to be honest I'm kinda here for it.

And here's some more information about the actual gameplay:

They also announced a Bat Family game.
I'm bad at Bat-lore, I recognize that Robin, Bat Girl, and Nightwing, but I have no idea who the Deadpool-Bat thing is.

Cute spider game looks adorable, but I too hope it gets console'd some day as that's the only way I'll get around to trying it.

Fenyx looks pretty fun (and it's nice to see a game with a completely customizable avatar where the default PC for promos is the female), but as I still need to play most of actual BotW (not to mention some unfinished AC) there's no way I'd make time for it any time soon.

The Red Hood, the former second Robin-turned-dead-turned-alive-turned-villain-turned-antihero. Frankly, I haven't been following anything about that character because as characters in the Bat-mythos goes, one angry former Robin is enough for me and giving him guns is overly 90s.

Becksworth

Aging Hipster Dragon Dad
To be fair, Nightwing was only really angry in the DCAU, so its more like one well adjusted former Robin, and one not well adjusted former Robin.

I like Red Hood, even if his comics are kinda lame. I'd also rather he use guns, instead of using a crowbar which is way too on the nose even for me. Jason Todd was murdered by the Joker with a crowbar; him taking on the 'Red Hood' persona was a way for him to metaphorically reclaim his agency from the Joker since one origin story of the Joker was as the mobster Red Hood before he got dropped in Acme chemicals and was reborn the Clown Prince.
In the N52, Red Hood was kinda given a Starlord/Guardians of the Galaxy role/team which was a lot of fun for a few weeks until editorial kept interfering and messing things up. And he's a good counter to the Dick/Babs side of the Bat Family that runs on the idealistic/optimistic side of things. I like that just like in the Godfather, every Robin inherited a different facets of Batman's personality. And Jason Todd inherited his rage and contempt of injustice.

Where does that leave Tim and Stephanie?
Honestly, non-entities. There are a lot of people who really like Tim Drake, and I'm sure his stories were pretty decent a few decades ago, but he also had a long stretch of being the only Robin around with the other guys having fucked off to wherever they were or weren't. Tim Drake's defining feature is that he inherited Batman's intellect, so he's a super smart detective who is fairly well adjusted. But that also doesn't give him much unique traits when the bat family assembles, IMO. Because even if he's supposed to be the brainy one, characters like Dick, Babs, and to lesser extent the others are still super smart, and at this point fairly well adjusted too (especially when your frame of reference is Bruce himself). DC Comics has spent the last decade plus struggling to find Tim Drake things to do that are interesting when there are a dozen other Robins around, and they haven't even tried with Stephanie. Especially when her personality is basically just blonde Babs. There's a lot of redundancies in the Bat Family, especially when a lot of characters are born from temporary absences of other characters to fill that niche, but then the absent character returns. Like, remember Batwing and Harper Row? I do but DC doesn't. 😂

Yes, please give me the game where you are a cat and everyone else is a robot as soon as possible.

This looks right up my alley in a Prince of Persia / Uncharted kind of way. Maybe PS5s will exist at some point so I can play it.

... this is an isekai I'm excited for. (And man, I need to find time to play some other games before I dive into a PS5 and this.)
