Have you played Urban Reign? If so, how does that stack up? I really need to play through God Hand, although I doubt I'd go Hard mode to start.

Urban Reign is not even in the same league as God Hand in terms of how good it is, in terms of difficulty... I don't remember Urban Reign being that hard, so probably about the same on default? God Hand uses a scalable difficulty based on how well you're beating-them-up, but it's easy to keep it at the lowest setting (there's even a move you can do to drop it intentionally).

Urban Reign starts easy, anyway. It gets ridiculously difficult, though. It's easily the hardest beat-'em-up I've played through, and I've beaten some tough ones.

I did not beat Urban Reign because I did not particularly like Urban Reign.

God Hand is one of my legit top five on PS2, though.

Just stumbled into this thread, and while I've done plenty of stupid completionist FF stuff I figure most of those aren't that uncommon, so I'm'a go with my 100% item collection in every PS-console Katamari game I guess.

I didn't hate it, but it was definitely one of those "hate beat" games by the end. A friend of mine was playing at the same time, and we were both compelled to finish it off. I like a lot of the mechanics in the game, but I just wish it were a bit more forgiving. Your take isn't out of the norm on God Hand at all, though - I've heard a lot of folks (including the same friend mentioned above) praise it extremely highly. (He still gives me guff for not having played through it yet, so that needs to happen at some point!)

Learning that:

1) I didn't need to play big triple AAA games because that's what "everyone" was talking about. "The discourse" doesn't matter and most people have bad opinions, and most triple AAA games are just not meaningful experiences to me so like...fuck it who cares?
2) Somewhat related: if I was playing a game and didn't like it, I could just STOP. I played FFXIII to completion! What the fuck?! Why did I do that?! I hated every second of that game!
3) It's okay to play a game, get really far, and just lose interest. You don't have to feel guilty about it, it doesn't matter.
4) You don't have to fight with randos on the internet

Oh and beating PS2 Shinobi on the hardest difficulty, that shit was WILD

I don't have the reflexes to 1cc a Contra game, but in attempting to do so, I'm now able to beat Super C (the easiest Contra) without the 10-life code, which is enough for me.

I actually did a blind LP of a pacifist run.

It'll be cool when the LP archive is back. LOL JK WE ALL KNOW THAT WILL NEVER ACTUALLY FUCKING HAPPEN.

If you can do that, though, I don't think you're quite as far off as you think. The more you play Contra, the more the game seems to slow down. You just start expecting things, even little random stuff the game throws at you like soldiers coming in from the sides.

Also, I actually think the original Contra is easier, so congrats on getting through Super C legit!

Super C has one bit late in the game where you can just die randomly, but NES Contra has multiple stages where guys randomly pop in from the edges of the screen and shoot at you in ways that might be impossible to dodge if you were the middle of a jump or something.

Dracula

Plastic Vampire

Original Flavor Contra always feels like the easiest one to me, but I can't make that claim because as a kid I played it roughly a billion times with cheats, so I knew all of its tricks when I started to play it without codes.

This is admittedly recent, but I've managed to earn two seals/titles in Destiny 2 while the related content was current.

You're not wrong, but when you know there's the potential for them doing it, you're often a lot more prepared for it when it happens (or wait until it does happen 'cause you just know). I've gotten to where I can do some ridiculous stuff that young me would have marveled at. I still will often take a random death or two, though, yeah. Especially if I'm just playing to chill.

What I remember the most is breaking Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan over my knee in primary school. Wind can bite me.

I don't understand all you people who think the final Bruiser in Super Punch-Out!! is the easy one, I just can't beat him. ☹

oh i would never say nick is the easy one. i would only consider him the less hard one, and slightly at that. the entire final circuit is a gauntlet

Yeah, pretty much that. Not easy, just easier for me. I also had a really tough time with the title defense in the Wii version because of all the tricky off-speed stuff you run into there. I've never beaten that one, actually. (And I'd not actually beat SPO until this year, either.)

Also, hopefully you're playing on something lag-free. It probably makes less of a difference than in MTPO, but it would still make a difference.

I’m not good at games by any stretch of the imagination, but I am proud of getting the cake-baking achievement in Hate Plus.

Popping in to report that today I accomplished a feat that's been on my list for a couple of years: completing Breath of the Wild's Trial of the Sword in Master Mode. I probably will never attempt it again!

ahh that's great! I did what was required for that, but alas it was long after the dev had stopped responding to proof-of-completion messages.

Last week I 100% completed Invictus, a semi-known kaizo SMW game. (I feel like the kaizo scene is so small that the average person won't know of any particular hack, but this one gained a bit of traction from speedruns and such.) Easily the hardest game I've ever finished and maybe one that I'm the most proud of, even if most people have never heard of it.

Invictus was featured at a recent GDQ, so it's probably one of the best-known hacks out there.

This is true, and that's what I was obliquely referring to. Unfortunately the guy who ran it at GDQ revealed himself to be a pretty big transphobe/misogynist/generally crappy person last fall, so I didn't want to specifically lead people to his content.

The creator of Invictus, Juzcook, is by all accounts really lovely though!

Heck, I was gonna come here to just to post this and it’s only one level from the hack:
