Grandia 2?

Yup! That's the one.

1. It's another Great Day!
"Great day" translates to "Gran día" in Spanish. Gotta dust off those high school Spanish lessons sometimes!

2. Dinner time conversation.
When you rest at an inn, your party members will gather around the dinner table and chat among themselves while they have a nice meal. It's a really cool little feature that I wish was more common in RPGs (Bravely Second tried a similar thing with its tent scenes, but it was pretty lackluster)

3. Non-euclidean love triangle
The protagonist's two love interests share the same body. It's at once a triangle and a straight line. Romance is complicated.

4. I don't think even Cloud can handle a sword that big.
The Granasaber, the sword of the god Granas, is spaceship-sized. It's also an actual spaceship, IIRC

5. Everyone expects the JRPG inquisition.
You'll never guess what the church is up to. Spoilers: They are evil, of course.

6. Eau de catnip.
When you arrive at a village of cat people, the inhabitants contrive a way to soak you in a catnip-like substance so that they can enjoy your smell.

7. The first PC port of this game was notoriously buggy.
It is! I still got the DVD around somewhere. Maybe I should buy the new steam version, though I've heard that one's got its own issues too...

8. No straying from the path.
This game is extremely linear. You don't ever really get a choice of where to go next. No world maps to explore, very few (if any) optional objectives.

9. Bird sidekick
Skye can be a bit grumpy sometimes, but he is a good egg. He also hatched from one, presumably.

Wait, really? I mean, yes, it does, but I always thought "Grandia" was a single word, made up for the franchise's name. Does the language have any relevance in the series?

Also, I've never played any installment, but the sword thing and the inn thing and the catnip thing make me want to play this one right away.

As far as I know, no, it doesn't. This was just me goofing around. You should totally play the game, though. It's very good. I myself have never played the first one, but I've heard good things about that one as well.

I thought it was Grandia 1 because of 'dinner time conversation', though i only remember one conversation at dinner table in G1 - the one in the beginning, with your mom and Sue. I've played a few hours of Grandia 2. My opinion was 'good battle system and that's it'. I'd like to play more of the game someday...

Oh dang, I did not expect that to be right. I haven't even played it, just remembered that it got rereleased on PC a few years ago. It does sound good, though!

1. This character sure looked different back then

4. Until recently, that is. Still, it was never in arcades.

Also, adjusted the first clue because I realized it applies to more than one character.
