Here there be dragons. Let's Play Bahamut Lagoon!
I'm back! Miss me? This time, I'll be playing one of Square's lesser-known treasures, namely...
Bahamut Lagoon! Alongside titles such as Seiken Densetsu 3 and Live A Live, there never was an official translation made (yet, hopefully), however, thanks to the efforts of a fan translation group called DeJap there is a translation patch available, so if you'd like to play along, download the patch here. -Table of Contents- Prologue - The Fall of Kahna Chapter 1 - The Beginning Chapter 2 - The Legend we Dreamed of... Chapter 3 - The Green Continent of Campbell Chapter 4 - Full of Regret Chapter 5 - Emperor Sauzer Chapter 6 - It's Not a Dream, is it...? Chapter 7 - The Legend of the Holy Dragons Chapter 8 - Mid-Air Dragon Battle Chapter 9 - Mahal, the Continent of Miracles Chapter 10 - Rainbow Bridge Chapter 11 - Leviathan Chapter 12 - The Spy Operation Chapter 13 - The Magic City of Godland Chapter 14 - When the Bird-Dragon Awakens... Chapter 15 - Showdown in the Burning Sands Chapter 16 - The Holy Dragon, Jormungand Chapter 17 - The Door to a New Era Chapter 18 - The Promised Land Chapter 19 - Farewell, Matelite! Chapter 20 - The Sky of Sadness Chapter 21 - The Holy Dragon Bahamut Chapter 22 - The Final Battle Chapter 23 - Destruction Chapter 24 - To the Homeland... Chapter 25 - Eternal Travelers Chapter 26 - Alexander, King of the Holy Dragons Final Chapter - We, Who Cannot See into Tomorrow... But before we - that is, I - start, we're gonna need names. Namely (ha!), for our protagonist and his pet dragons. The default name for our hero is Byuu, so if you guys want I could stay with that, but don't be afraid to come up with some great names. I'm counting on you guys. Oh by the way, there's a limit of eight characters and dragons, so keep that in mind. Last edited by PapillonReel; 11-30-2008 at 12:43 AM. |

True story: The very first thought in my mind when I saw this post was "What the hell is Bahamut Lagoon?" Now I shall know. And that's swell.
And you know everyone is going to pick "Pants", so I have a nice alternate: "Trousers" |

You should name all your dragons after a specific theme, like types of hats.

Coulottes Highwaters Shorts Trunks Slacks I'm looking forward to playing this one. I tried to play it in high school using the DeJap patch, but I just couldn't. Can't remember exactly why I couldn't, but either the ROM was bugged or I just couldn't figure out what was going on. I'm leaning towards the latter, as I remember being freaked out that I couldn't figure out how to make my dragons work right in battle, and I just heard recently that they fight automatically... I remember I named my munimuni dragon "Strabo" in honour of the only Terry Brooks character (dragon) I've ever liked.
If I'm not mistaken, Tomato worked on the Bahamut Lagoon translation, didn't he? He's the good soul plugging away at the Mother 3 translation as we speak. |

Between this and the Star Control II LP, I'm going to put off work forever times fifty. That's okay, I can eat fun.

Temporally Play? Don't we.. don't we do that anyway? Or does normal play involve some kind of spiritual interface?
Explain your game, Mr. Reel! |

No pants. C'mon guys, I need stellar names here!
Yep, him and three others if I remember correctly. Glad to hear that he's still translating, though is he working with DeJap still or is this solo-work? |

That's Engrish left over from the original ROM. It's supposed to be "Temporarily Play", I think.

Years ago I bought this game for 1000Y brand new at a dusty game shop in an Akihabara back alley. They had copies of it literally stacked to the ceiling, along with SD3 and Chrono Trigger (!) for the same price.
I never got beyond the intro sequence. Now I'll get to find out if that was a good decision! |

I hate this game. It does so many things right and then falls flat on its face by being mind-numbingly easy, which coupled with the slow/long battles made it unplayable for me.
So this should be a cool LP, because I won't have to subject myself to that. |

Strange, I don't remember it being too easy... how far did you get, by any chance?

I played Bahamut Lagoon for about two minutes before I decided I wasn't that interested. I love the art style, though. It's like it occupies some weird interval between FFVI and FFT.

This is actually the only game I've played much of in Japanese. Note that I understand no written Japanese, so feeding dragons was a hilariously random exercise. I think I only got halfway through or so. I really liked how elemental effects could alter the battlefield in ways that were tactically significant.

Uh, the rules specifically state that any nameable hero MUST BE NAMED PANTS.

Yeesh, you guys really like your pants, huh? Fine, I relent. The hero shall hereby be christened PANTS.
I still need dragon names though. |

I dunno, six or seven missions. Most SRPGs are easy early on, it's true, and I'm kind of perpetually disinterested in the genre in general, but I did feel like I had already spent long enough playing it to say that it needed some challenge and I couldn't sit through it just for the visuals, music, and story, even if I really wanted to. And I only sort of wanted to.

I support naming them after food. In that line of thought, I nominate: Fanta.
