Let's Play Not Worth its Own Thread: Video Edition

Here is where you can do video Let's Plays that you don't think deserve their own thread, video highlights of a game, or other such things. Until I draft some actual rules here are the ones from the old microthread for now.

�Microgames are limited to four posts per update. This should be obvious; this thread's only for small projects so any of you thinking of trying to work around the queue will have to try again some other day. Unless you work something out with me ahead of time or if something pops up out of nowhere, abuse will be met with a punch to the biscuits. And if it turns out you don't think you'll have enough time for whatever you have planned, perhaps it may be worth it's own thread after all.

�Only one run of a game at a time. This is all in one thread, so keeping all of this organized is gonna be key. Please wait until the current game is finished before starting up your own.

�Let's Plays in this thread must be wrapped up in one month's time max. I've been pretty lenient with deadlines as far as bigger projects go, but the idea here is to give fast, bite-sized LPs a chance to shine. You should have plenty of time to wrap up your game of choice so don't dawdle with your run, and make sure you're good to go before you start up! No one likes a lollygagger.

�Once you finish a game in here please give someone else a chance before you go again. A two week cooling off period is recommended. This is so the thread won't get locked up by a single person doing one LP after another. If the two weeks pass and no one else has stepped in yet, then sure, you can go ahead and start another.

Youtube changed their format recently, and that led to them introducing 'channel trailers'.

Since my channel is basically me failing at video games, my trailer had to fit too.



So, to make it interesting, I decided to show off a quirky password in one of my favorite games. The video doesn't quite do it justice.

The All-J password is an unwinnable state in The Guardian Legend. You start with your health bar at 2, instead of the default 8, and even though the room you spawn in (not a save room, interestingly) has a life pickup, you're still way low on health.

You're also powered up offensively quite a bit, with a variety of weapons that you can use, and seemingly infinite uses of them. Basically, you're like the ultimate glass cannon.

So why is the game unwinnable? Well, you see, in the game, you begin in a central area and have to unlock keys to advance to other areas of the game. The key doors are locked both ways... not a problem since you'll get the key normally. But in this case, you start in an area you don't have the key for, so you can't actually leave the area you've spawned in.

There's other quirky passwords like this, but I haven't fooled with them.

This seems like a better place than many to do this, so...

Let's Play Super Hexagon



Super Hexagon is a game about shapes, possibly hexagons. You are a heroic arrow trying to defeat the evil walls by...dodging them or something. It's a game okay?

So, I referenced this video a bit ago in my STO series, but I finally got around to putting commentary on it recently.

Another Century's Episode R is straight up a bad game, and one of the few things I've ever purchased and regretted. And it's a real shame, since From Software has made way better mecha games, so it has to have been a deliberate choice to make it this way.

Did you ever wish you could see the ending of this game? I'm sorry to say that you'll have to go elsewhere. This game is terrible, and the second video will show you why. Titus could not make a game to save their lives, which is probably why they don't exist anymore. I'm putting this here just because I don't know if I will ever return to the world of Robocop for the Xbox. It's just very very bad, and I don't have a method to cheat in it. I don't think anyone ever bothered to find cheats for it.

This reminds me of the Judge Dredd PS2 game someone randomly gave me that I really should have a look at some day.

The whole game is a "How not you make a videogame" guide. Everything about it is just awful. The second level is pretty much impossible without perfect gameplay and a lot of hoping that it doesn't all collapse and kill you with some awful glitch.

This is literally the only good thing to come out of the game.

Holy crap I never I thought I'd see a Billy Joel parody arise from these forums but then I saw the very end of this video and my mind was blown.

Did anyone else ever have the poor fortune of owning this one? More importantly, are the NES/SNES platformers as bad as I remember? I feel like I should probably OHKO one or both of those, if they're short enough.

Just a quick test of both my recording setup, and my ability to speak without a pack of skypebuddies to tell me what's up. Also it's sonic the hedgehog one! man I love that game! Right up until the sky bleeds red and the world pulses violently beneath your feet and you know for the first time that you have sinned and you are not forgiven.

I love that bit less.

Oddly, talking about how you're not sure about doing LPs alone made me agree you're better with a peanut gallery, but that is marketing for you, maybe if you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have had the thought. I don't mind the quality being slightly fuzzy on a video as I can tell what's going on and have played hundreds of hours of SANIC WON, so I watched it on lowest video quality settings and wouldn't probably be a factor in deciding if I'd watch a BEAT video. I always enjoy your videos if I'm interested in the game. So there you go, FED BACK.

Over a year ago, I started a stream of I wanna be the guy that I totally never finished. I still am going to do a lets play of that game, I have to at this point, but most of it was bunch of the raddest people on talking time hanging out and shooting the shit over footage of a dude dying a jillion times.

One stream I had been fighting devil dinosaur for the better part of an hour, and was slowly running out of steam. The conversation up to that point had been a largely unfit to print conversation about various aspects of human nature and and also fucking. Then phat signed on with his guitar.
