Red's Random Rambling - Video LPs and more.
Between TirMcDohl inviting me to join in Roguecraft hijinx, and Brickroad starting the Let's Racing Time, I've been fooling around with video recording and such.
I actually did a full video LP for Shivers a while back, but that didn't use full voice commentary, and I've been doing videos as part of my screenshot LPs for a while now. But it wasn't until dosboot started the Castlevania challenge that I really decided to just sit down and record a full game in video. And it's really, really fun. Based on feedback from Eddie and others, I thought I would jazz up this opening post a bit and tell you what you're getting into. So, without further ado: Screenshot LPs: Pokemon ShinyGold - This ROMHack was my first attempt at LPing, and I will admit it probably doesn't age well. Nonetheless, follow the adventures of Stacy and Dr. Cox as they explore the Johto region, avoiding the jerk Carlos and several other NPCs that didn't exist in the original games. Final Fantasy V Advance - An audience participation LP where my party layout was decided by the folks on the Captain SNES forum. Even when I didn't cheese the bosses, I did try to explain the cheap and easy ways. True Love (NSFW) - This may be the worst game LPed ever... a Japanese eroge dating sim, translated into bad British English. Originally started as an April Fools joke, the joke was so popular that it was demanded I finished the game, with audience feedback on how Bruce would handle his daily schedule, and which girls he would pursue. The terribly-hilarious censoring images might be the best part of this, but again, NSFW. Pokemon Emerald 386 - in progress - My current screenshot LP, exploring a Pokemon Emerald hack where all Gen 3 Pokemon are available to catch, and trainers use teams of higher levels to add to the difficulty. I compare trainers to their original Emerald incarnations and share general Gen 3 information as May, and his rival May, explore this slightly different version of Hoenn. Video LPs Castevania (NES) - For the Talking Time Castlevania challenge, I decided to tackle a NES-Hard game that I have never, ever, beaten before. If you're expecting to see a pro tackle this game, you're in the wrong place. The Little Mermaid (NES) - A fun and delightful romp as Ariel throws bubbles into alcoves, maxes out power early on, and never looks back. Bad NES chiptune version of Under the Sea is just a bonus. Feel free to leave any feedback, good or bad, since I know the thread title is perfectly accurate when it comes to my commentary! Last edited by Red Silvers; 04-29-2013 at 11:14 PM. |

The Little Mermaid #4 is live now. Sorry for the delay getting this up, but my net was down.

The Little Mermaid Finale!
I asked in the video, but I'll ask here, if there's anything people would like to see me try LPing. |

...actually, an LP of Metroid 2 would be awesome, while I'm reliving my Game Boy youth, but I don't actually want to replay that game because I always got hopelessly lost.

Now I'm actually curious if me playing NES Metroid blind would be interesting for folks.
...yeah, I never played Metroid II and barely played Metroid. Talk about missing a cornerstone of gaming? |

Blind Metroid could be interesting to see, but could also go wrong very fast.
I'm not a master in the game myself(barely even played through it), and I remember some very late hours trying to figure out where and how the secrets are hidden. Like in the original Zelda, you need both to know the mechanics for the ways secrets are hidden, as well as just bombing everything. It can easily get tedious very quickly, both to play and to watch. I think a blind Super Metroid run could be a lot more interesting. That game is so much easier to do without getting stuck on something dumb. Finding someone who have not played Super Metroid is so much more rare than finding someone who haven't played the first two games. Even if "everyone" has LPed Super Metroid, one doing it blind would be a golden opportunity. And it's a much better game than Metroid and Metroid 2. They aren't even on the same plane of existence. |

I'll need to fiddle with some stuff to get SNES recording, but I think Super Metroid seems to be a fun idea.

Apparently my controller is just ass because I can't get Super Metroid's controls to work right.
This is doubly annoying when you consider that I'm using a SNES controller. |

Time for a new LP!
And this time, I need your help, Talking Time! That's right, 8 Robot Masters are threatening the world, and only you can help me decide which order to tackle them! |

-sings- SPARK MAN oooooOoOooooo Spark Man! Yeah!

Shadow Man, because I believe in you.

I vote for Hard Man first.
He's usually the last one I fight, but he was the first robot master I ever defeated, so it's certainly doable. |

With a four way tie, the only way to resolve things was to grab the votes, chuck them into random.org, and roll the dice...
And the winner? Spark Man! This is a case where it's not the boss that makes the stage hard to start with! Seven robot masters remain, Talking Time... but which one will we face next? Snake, Needle, Hard, Top, Gemini, Magnet, or Shadow? |

Hard Man! -hangs signs up everywhere that say Hard Man-

But, spark shock is terrible.
Do Top Man next and get a real weapon. |

Nintendo Power says you should have done Magnet Man first. So, get yourself on the right track there.

Another round of voting, and another RNG to break the tie...
Rolling the dice isn't that far off from spinning a top... Top Man! I'm sure someone is going to laugh at this video at one point. Six robots remain! Snake, Needle, Hard, Gemini, Magnet, and Shadow. Tell me what's up, Talking Time. Who is going down this time? |

Magnet man! Booya!
|
#23
|
|||
|
|||
Needle Man, but only out of pity for his unpopularity.
|
#24
|

|

Needle man. No fun to do Shadow Man after you get the weakness.
|
#25
|
|||
|

Yeah, but doing Needle Man gives him Rush Jet... and that makes the Magnet Man blocks trivial instead of game-ending.

Maybe not... but if you get Needle first we'll never know! :P

Throw in another vote for needle man.
|
#29
|

|

Magnets!

For once, the vote wasn't a tie!
Needle Man! Hmm, interesting... More to the point , can Needle Man be beaten without an E-Tank? And who is next? Snake, Hard, Gemini, Magnet, or Shadow? |
