Default Let's Watch Garrison Side-Skype Your Brain With Friends

As of late, I've been getting together with a bunch of rad people over on #talkingtime and streaming videogames. It spawned from my Parallel Worlds LP, but now it's kind of become its own thing. So if you're ever around and you're bored, come and hang out with us, either in the chat, irc, or in the skype call. Here's what you need to know:

Streams are every Wednesday at 6PM PST/9PM EST. Occasionally I'll stream at other times, but I'll try and let people know about it.

This is the stream

This is the fast-track to the IRC channel

If you're wanting to join us on Skype, add garrison_tt and let me know.

At the moment, the tech side of this is a little bit sloppy, so if you have any suggestions to make it a more pleasant experience, let me know. I hope to see/hear/experience some of y'all soon.

Default 5/18: Terranigma up in this

#talkingtime has indicated to me that Terranigma is the next game I should play, so that's what I'm going to go ahead and do! If you want in on the call, feel free to PM me, leave a comment in this thread, or bug me on IRC. I'll see all y'all then.

Well, on the brightside, I record most streams, so you can at least get some free entertainment out of it.

I would love to call in but since I live in Newfoundland it starts firmly around the time I go to bed, and it's a worknight.

Still, looking forward to seeing the recordings.

I'll join you via Skype. You should be able to recognize my username on Skype, so I'm not releasing it here! Anything you need from me, Garrison?

Last night was kind of disappointing, but whatevs. I'm still trying to work out some of the issues with the whole stream. Thanks to everyone who was a part of it and thanks to everyone who watched.

Sheeeit, Umby's jumped on this thing? I'm so, so sorry you guys. I might add Garrison on Skype for next time, just to make sure Umby doesn't quote Zardoz incessantly or some shit.

One of these streams I will be the person streaming. And god help you all if you don't like seeing Wizards and Warriors 2 and Jurassic park. If things pan out you might get to see a pro play Demon's Souls. B)

That is only if I can stream it in a way I can see the screen and what is going on. Composite might make my eyes bleed.

I tried to tune in, but I am poor and have a crappy internet connection so watching a stream is impossible. I did see Terranigma and heard laughter in the three seconds before I lost it.

I am probably taking over streaming duty tonight at around 9-9:30 CST. It'll start whenever Garrison is ready.

Okay I will be streaming for sure as long as mother nature doesn't drop a tornado on my head tonight. So in fact I am not too sure if I will be streaming tonight. Watch this post for edits.

Edit: Lots of lightning, but I think it should be okay by the time I start.

Edit2: Okay I think I am ready to go as soon as Garrison comes around, or if Kayin gets back before him I guess.

Default 5/22: The Smiler Special

Since I broke every bone in my body at work, Smiler was kind enough to cover for our impromptu streaming session tonight. It should be starting up any moment now, so get your finger on the dial and your hand on your heart.

Smiler's Stream

After I got my hodgepodge setup to work this was pretty fun. Had some great deaths and some progress in Demon's Souls.

How does this justin.tv work? Do you have to pay for bandwidth?

And how do you record your streams? Meaning what's your setup?

I flat out stole my setup from this. Smiler figured out his own setup, so I can't exactly speak for him. As far as Justin.tv goes, I've heard it's better than Ustream, but I've never messed with it myself. Recording is a mysterious thing, it somehow works and I don't know how.

Yea streaming has been something I've been meaning to do something with for awhile. I got mine figured out for my desktop tonight the consoles may be a bit off but I may do some League of Legends or Terraria streaming tomorrow who knows. But for now sleep. 4:45 am is way to late to be up. Elfir is going to kill me.

The setup is usually some sort of webcam software capturing video on your desktop, the game you are playing being captured by the cam software, and then the ustream uploader in your browser. For the cam software I recommend manycam. It doesn't have a lot of options as far as I can tell, but you can get the watermark off of the stream, so that's nice.

Everything else is secondary. You could get adobe FMLE to upload slightly better video to the stream, but it was making my computer choke while playing demon's souls. If you want to talk, you need to be able to either turn on playback volume on your mic in soundcard settings, or use Virtual Audio Cable to play your mic over your stereo mix audio. Oh, and most importantly some sort of "what you hear" stereo mix on your sound card makes the process so much easier to stream.

In the end once you get the basics it is up to you to figure out how you are going to stream. I was capturing video from MPC from my capture device up until it didn't work for stream time, so then after a while I was playing the game through FMLE's preview window since it could just pull the video from my capture card. Once my computer started choking on the game, I switched from FMLE capturing from my device and then streaming it to manycam capturing the video from the FMLE preview window and then using the stock Ustream streamer to stream last night.

It was an adventure, let me tell you.

Yea, that was fun times. Wish I could have gotten on skype earlier, but my wife didn't want me talking over her tv shows.
