I had my first really good night of HotS on Wednesday. I played three matches with two friends and stuck with Artanis for all of them. I really like his skill set and I'm starting to make good use of his Phase Prism - at least some of the time. We won all three matches and I took MVP for two of them.

Obviously I still have a lot to learn about Artanis and even then that's only ONE hero, but it feels good to find someone you click with and get some shit done. I earned my 10 Overwatch loot boxes (all filled with garbage, natch), but I have a feeling I'll still come back to HotS from time to time. It's actually kinda fun!

Yeah, I'm still not very good at it, and I still suffer from feeling like I'm doing way worse then I probably actually am, but I find the game fun regardless.

It helps that there's so many characters that I have actual attachments with, unlike other major MOBAs.

Artanis is easily my favorite tank. Prisim is pretty slow so it requires some luck or good anticipation.

Is it just me or have they gone really, really overboard on quest talents since I last stopped playing ~8 months ago? Seems like a lot of the time you're picking between three quests, and honestly aside from a few of the ones that really fit how I liked to play or synergized with builds I liked I usually avoided them before.

Yeah almost all the talent reworks they do now involve adding some quests to characters that don't have any. It works pretty well for the way the game is balanced because it lets level 1-4-7 talents have some kind of impact later in the match, but I do wish they would trim it down though; it's kind of a lot.

PSA: you can re-roll character-specific loot chests and still maintain the guaranteed character item. I didn't trust the warning window that says the contents are "randomized" when it came to those types of chests, and it doesn't. So this should also be true for rarity-specific loot chests.

Default yay for triple posts

For some reason I got it into my head that I wanna learn Rexxar. It's usually very painful to play Quick Match with him, but when he does work it's pretty exhilarating. So far I like him a lot on King of the Hill maps because you can do all kinds of shenanigans since the bear counts as a body. He's so terribly fragile for a Warrior though and if their team has anyone like Genji, Butcher, or a cloaker and they go after me I'm pretty hosed.

Don't expect too much out of the Welcome Chest if you get one; I'm pretty sure it can't go above a Rare item. I spent 1500 gold rerolling and it never did which is fucking awesome by the way I practically could have bought a hero I don't have with that much gold instead I got four #@&! duplicate heroes. Oh well, I still have the two good loot chests I got out of the pack, and plenty of gems.

So, two questions.

One: Haunted Mines: do minions not spawn while the underground fight is going on?

Two: Kael'thas: What happens if he uses Living Bomb on a target that is already affected by Living Bomb? Does it reset the DoT, extend the DoT, or is it wasted entirely?

1. No, they still spawn. You can ignore the mines altogether and push lanes instead. It's usually only worth pushing one lane when you do this, and really only in the beginning of the match. But it can get out of hand if your opponent does it and you don't counter.

2. Uh, I'm not entirely sure KT can cast living bomb on someone that already has living bomb active. I've played him a bit and that feels like something my muscle memory has learned.

1. Well then that's weird because I was trying to push a lane while the mine fight was going on* but no minions were arriving to back me up after I reached the enemy core, I saw no blue dots whatsoever on the minimap, and no opposing minions spawned either until the mine fight was over. I assumed that was intended to make it harder for someone to sneak a win like I was trying to do.

2. Sounds like it's time for some science!

*If I'm playing Sylvanas, I split push. It's what she does.**

**Ahaha, like I don't split push anyway. I split push constantly no matter who I'm playing as, it's pretty much my favorite playstyle. That's why I usually play Sylvanas.

Passive Hero Trait

Basic attacks afflict non-structure targets with Reaper's Mark for 4 seconds. Marked enemies are revealed and take damage equal to 2.5% of their health every 1 second.

Primary Abilities

Soul Rip: Extract the souls of nearby enemies afflicted by Reaper's Mark, dealing 100 damage and healing Malthael for 44 per target hit. Heroic targets heal Malthael for an additional 3% of the Hero's maximum Health.

Wraith Strike: Instantly teleport through an enemy afflicted by Reaper's Mark, dealing 59 damage and refreshing Reaper's Mark.

Death Shroud: After 0.25 seconds, unleash a wave of dark mist that applies Reaper's Mark to enemies it hits.

Heroic Abilties

Tormented Souls: Gain 20 Armor and unleash a torrent of souls, continually applying Reaper's Mark to nearby enemies for 4 seconds.

Last Rites: Apply a death sentence to an enemy Hero that, after 2 seconds, deals damage equal to 50% of their missing Health. Repeatable Quest: Enemies killed while under the effect of Last Rites permanently reduce its cooldown by 5 seconds, to a minimum of 15 seconds.

He sounds sooo goddamn broken. Totally unavoidable damage based on Max Health attached to his basic attack??? How is that not broken, even if it takes 4 seconds for the full effect? At least with Tychus you can blind him and make his Max Health-based attacks miss, but Malthael only needs to hit you once every 4 seconds (and not even that since his other ability can apply it). I'm assuming he's Melee range but still, fuck.

He absolutely 100% needs a Gabriel Reyes skin. Not, like, "this is Reaper in this game now" but just Gabriel Reyes cosplaying as Malthael. With voice lines claiming that he's totally Malthael not Reyes.

So. There's a load screen tooltip in this game to the effect of: "Teamwork is the best choice. Even if you disagree on strategy, you should help your team." However, I have learned there is a very fine line between "helping your team even though they're stupid" and "not helping your team because they're stupid." Being able to discern which of these strategies to use is incredibly difficult and also impossible if you're playing a Support. But it's true.

I don't feel bad about calling my team bad on a match I just played even though I fully admit I wasn't being much of a team player. They weren't great, the other team wasn't great, I don't think it would've mattered much if I tried harder to be a Tank for them, because they were just bad in team fights and map strategy anyway. I usually keep it to myself or sugar coat it in chat. But sometimes I just can't and I contribute to toxic chat. So...well I'm just rambling at this point. Good luck, have fun.

I've gotten to a point where I play Sylvanas every game and, regardless of objectives or complaints, spend the whole game pushing lanes. It tends to work more often than not.

With the way the other team was playing in that match, I would've achieved much more if I was Sylvanas (or any Specialist probably) instead of Varian. I mean I took down a Tower uncontested as Varian. What.

Yeah we had a VS AI game tonight where our Valla died 15 times. And the Lucio died 9. Against AI.

I have no idea what was going on there but there's no way I could have worked with that.

Part of the patch notes for Malthael deals with map rotations! They're changing it so maps only rotate for Ranked games, and everything else has all the maps available. Really does make the most sense; Quick Match is supposed to get you anything possible.

I've decided my favorite all-time Tank is Arthas, followed closely by Johanna. I just love his most recent talent rework because his possible builds really are quite dynamic and can change how you play him quite significantly, and that's not even getting into counter-picking against their team. Plus he can handle a variety of map objectives, and he can even push lanes in a pinch if you want.

Artanis is easily my best and favoritest Bruiser, though.

Today's Dignitas v L5 needs to be required viewing for anyone who still claims Heroes has snowballs or no turn-arounds.

So I went ahead and played this guy today in a couple matches and... he doesn't feel all that overpowered? His trait works off percentages of total health, so it's not terribly impressive against other squishy characters but does make him a legit threat against tanks. He's only melee range and only one of his abilities can apply his trait mark, so it can be hard for him to keep it on an enemy unless they're committing to the fight themselves.

On the other hand, I felt I was performing well with him despite the fact that I suck with (1) melee characters and (2) assassins, so maybe he is overpowered and I just couldn't tell myself.

Well in the 2 matches I played as Johanna, he can easily kill me 1v1 and there really isn't much I can do to get away from him because he can teleport back to me as long as his DoT stays active on me. It still takes a while for him to kill a tank, but he can do it pretty effortlessly 1v1. Of course, getting into a 1v1 situation against him is not a good scenario in the first place.

Meanwhile, Thrall now needs to take Giant Killer at 16 instead of 13 and it only works on a rooted target.

Yeah.

Yeah.
I am highly suspect of this Thrall rework. It seems like a mess and they once again went overboard with the Quest talents.

I am so excited about Stukov. Not how I would have personally have designed him, but the presence of Zagara, Abathur and even Probius does put a kink the hose re: Zerg specialists. But that doesn't matter: supporting can get really boring (and I say this as a support main), and so Stukov is a much-needed support-damage hybrid. Reghar is fun for that, too, but our lil' infested guy has a unique kit all his own.

Also I've been playing a lot of melee lately, that being my weakest subtype, and I feel cheated not knowing how fun they were this whole time, once you get used to them. Malthael and Grey are ♥♥♥. Still don't "get" Alarak, though, at this point, don't even care to, Tentacle Face skin or no.

I want to play with him (not *with* just, you know, with him on my team) but FFXIV has been taking most of my online gaming time now.
