I think the purest Texan version of schnitzel is chicken fried steak.

Hmmm.

Personally for me "schnitzel" has to be something more like a breaded pork loin with some sort of lemon or vinegar sauce going on in it.

Like they say, if it ain't acidic, it ain't Germanic

Yeahhh, traditionally it's supposed to be veal or chicken. Chicken fried steak is delicious, but it ain't schnitzel. XD

I don't know who is saying fish isn't meat but they are either crazy or way too anal about definitions. (Also, mahi is delicious.)

I think it's a weird thing of growing up Catholic, where you weren't supposed to eat meat on Fridays during Lent but could eat fish that day because that didn't count because ???

I'm not religious any more so I just eat whatever, but it's always thrown me a bit, this question about "does fish count as meat" lol

I think it's because according to biblical myth, Christ sacrificed his earthly flesh to save humanity, thus animals that touch the ground are forbidden. Fish can't touch the ground, therefore they're safe to eat.

Did you know that beaver was declared a "fish" by the Catholic Church in the 17th Century?

I was of the understanding the policy was entirely motivated by wanting to make sure a somewhat struggling fishing industry didn't collapse

I had to do a Google.

Quote:
Since Jesus sacrificed his flesh for us on Good Friday, we refrain from eating flesh meat in his honor on Fridays. Flesh meat includes the meat of mammals and poultry, and the main foods that come under this heading are beef and pork, chicken and turkey. While flesh is prohibited, the non-flesh products of these animals are not, things like milk, cheese, butter, and eggs.

Fish do not belong to the flesh meat category. The Latin word for meat, caro, from which we get English words like carnivore and carnivorous, applies strictly to flesh meat and has never been understood to include fish. Furthermore, in former times flesh meat was more expensive, eaten only occasionally, and associated with feasting and rejoicing; whereas fish was cheap, eaten more often, and not associated with celebrations.

There was a now sadly defunct pizza place near us that used to do sliced andouille sausage as a topping, and man that was good.
