How about "Captain America, but lead-lined"?

I think this one is supposed to be Citizen Steel (given the Johns influence, it's almost certain). The fun one is the one from the All-Star Squadron back in the 80s - that was Commander Steel.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It kind of fits the "guy who was inspired by Superman" angle at least.

Nah, Tom Carvannah and Gorilla Grodd don't even get mentioned.

Sorry, Captain Cold is unequivocally the Flash's best enemy.

OK, so here is my number one gripe with The Flash: how many times are they going to go back to the Tom Cavanagh mentor-but-secretly-the-villain well?* It went from genuinely surprising to tiring to ironic farce and now I don't know what.

Yeah but you'd lose the whole John Henry Angle, which is what I would call "The entire fucking point".

These shows have had a really good track record of:
A) Having love for the characters
B) Pulling off plot twists that subvert the expectations of the fans
So I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe John Henry shows up later and Olsen gives him the suit?

I thought the twists they pulled off with Martian Manhunter and Jay Garrick were sublime, but I will concede your point.

The one that broke my heart was Slade Wilson

In fairness, I'm sure the writers loved the characters. They just didn't have casting directors who loved casting actors who can act.

Sometimes the casting director has a bad day, and the case of Skinny Waller, she was the one person from Spartacus that didn't make the jump so well. Unlike Slade, Nyssa, Capt. Boomerang, Weather Wizard...

Depends on the writer, really. Waid-era it was Zoom (even though it was really only one story, it was The Best Flash Story Ever) because Waid never really bothered with the Rogues, Johns-era it was Cold because Johns writes a great Cold (even on the TV series) but a fucking terrible Thawne (although not necessarily on TV, but I don't think he's ever written an episode featuring him).

Last night's Flash was fun, although Shade deserved better than that. But I'm a Starman fan from way back so I went in with unrealistic expectations there.

Still, seeing Alchemy actually blasting away with the fucking Philosopher's Stone was great. Odd that the previews for next week don't seem to deal much with the cliffhanger, but at least Barry isn't speed-crippled by the big bad yet again....

Speaking of: SPOILERS AHOY

Your Justice League for the crossover is: (Rank Unknown) Steel, Supergirl, Vixen, GA, Heat Wave, Flash, and Firestorm's glimpsed in there as well. Cisco, Felicity, Ray, and Digg as support. Plus all the Arrow newbies.

Oh, and Deathstroke's back. Which you'd think Arrow would've hinted at before now....

Dammit, HBO Now has grabbed all the DC TV shows (with the lone exception of Arrow) as exclusives in Spain. I don't want to pay 8€ for another streaming service :'(

He only did around people who (a) know Barry personally and (b) don't know that he's the Flash.

The crossover of those Venn Diagrams is basically the new CSI guy (around whom he seems to be keeping up the trick).

Oh, and LoT is going to be moving to the post-Flash timeslot when CW shuffles their schedule to accomodate that new Archie-meets-Smallville thing.

Don't the trailers for the next ep show that Draco Malfoy is finding out too?

I just stick with "DCTV" with the unspoken assumption that nobody would ever want to talk about Gotham.

Lucifers also pretty good, but it's also only a DC show in the strictest sense of the term.

I like Gotham, too! I like that, in addition to being crazy nonsense, it moves at a faster pace than any other show on TV. Like, plots that would take an entire season to spin out in other shows take, like, three episodes on Gotham.

I don't like Gotham (largely because they didn't go Gotham Central with it), but by this point I at least respect its (completely fucking insane) vision.

Things I like
- huge arcs with odd characters like Mad Hatter, Hugo Strange, Galavan and MVP Fish Mooney
- willingness to drop stuff that isn't working (most GPD characters, the IA people, good Barbara)
- willingness to just be odd and gross
- Penguin and Riddler <3

Yeah, Gotham isn't like any other show I've ever seen, in that it evolves so much faster than other shows. On the one hand, that can mean it's hard to find solid ground. But once you're used to the idea that this is a crazy soap opera where the status quo changes completely episode-to-episode, it becomes wildly entertaining.

On other shows, you might have to wait multiple seasons for them to realize 1. a character isn't working. 2. Maybe we can push the character harder? 3. Well, maybe this new angle will help things? 4. Let's put them in the background and have an occasional feature episode? 5. Alright, the only interesting thing we can do with them is to kill them.

What I'm saying is, if the Gotham showrunners had been working on Arrow, Laurel would have been dead before the first season's mid-season finale.

Hmm, maybe I should give the show another shot then. I stopped watching right around the point where it was revealed that Black Mask was running secret underground fight clubs where the prize was a promotion in his otherwise perfectly legal business and also Alfred encouraged L'il Bruce to beat his schoolmate nearly to death with Alfred pointedly telling the other child that he straight-up did not care about witnessing a small child commit attempted Murder.

All of which sounds pretty Octo, now that I've laid it all out...

I think you have to accept that whatever version of Batman gets spat out will be irreversibly broken (to say NOTHING of Jim Gordon).

If you accept that, it's not as bad as it used to be.

They're characters who happen to share names with popular DC characters, nothing more.
