Autonomous Trap 001

“What you’re looking at is a salt circle, a traditional form of protection—from within or without—in magical practice. In this case it’s being used to arrest an autonomous vehicle—a self-driving car, which relies on machine vision and processing to guide it. By quickly deploying the expected form of road markings—in this case, a No Entry glyph—we can confuse the car’s vision system into believing it’s surrounded by no entry points, and entrap it.”

D&D had infamously incorrectly heavy weights for weapons for decades. I've heard that Gygax intended the weights in that chart to represent an 'encumbrance value' rather than raw weight, a longsword is harder to carry around than 3lbs of rope, but I don't think I've ever seen a reputable source for that.

We have the above Melons Metric to prove that if that wasn't the intent, it certainly is the case now.

Maybe there's a market for open world games. But if so, they must be appealing to some part of the human psyche that I lack. I don't want anything to do with them. They barely even qualify as games to me.

They'd bother me a hell of a lot less if they were just a genre I could ignore, like sports games or first person shooters. But lately all my favorite game series keep getting new games that are open world games, abandoning the genre of games that the rest of the series was. In the last few years this has happened to Arkham, Dragon Age, Final Fantasy, and now Legend of Zelda. I can't fucking stand it. I want to set all of these producers on fucking fire and murder their children in front of them while they burn.
I can relate.

Good lord that's a disproportionate response. So psychopaths don't enjoy open world games, got it.

Open world isn't a genre. None of those series really changed genres.

The original PHB also includes a hilarious number of polearms, stuff like the bardiche and the guisarme, that baffled a whole generation of kids in the 80s. What I remember reading is that Gygax saw a display containing all of those same polearms, at a museum, and decided to put 'em all in the book.

While that post is definitely "best post" material, adding that you can relate to someone's musings about wanting to commit violence against game developers for making design decisions you dislike is crossing a line, I think. I'm sure it's "just a joke" (both your post and the original post), but in light of how ugly, aggressive and frankly scary parts of the gaming community have become in recent years, with numerous people in the industry actually receiving death threats over nonsense issues, it makes me really uncomfortable to see any facet of that mentality reflected in Talking Time. It's highly immature at best and a little disturbing at worst, and I think we as a community are (or should be) better than that.

Sorry if this seems like an overreaction but this really rubs me the wrong way.

That's really weird, given the subtext in Just Cause, Saints Row, etc.

Life has amazing graphics, but most quest rewards are bullshit for the amount of effort you have to put in, and many skilltrees are in desperate need of buffing. Despite the widely-held sentiment that "Life begins at 40" (unusual for this sort of game, as the level cap is believed to be around 120), the endgame does not compare favorably to the earlier content.

Plus the easier difficulty modes are broken and there's no way to switch once you've started in, which is especially bad design for a game that supposedly only gets good a few decades into it

And seriously, who ever thought an MMO with permadeath combined with the entire world being a PvP zone was ever a good idea?

Frankly, most of Life's drawbacks would not exist (or would be very much tolerable) if most of the player base - and particularly those who managed to get jobs as mods - weren't such huge douchebags.

You see, small things can make you really angry sometimes and that's what I can relate to.

Never got so angry on someone or something that you thought just killing them wouldn't even be enough to quench your hatred?

It really just takes a loud neighbor that robs you of your sleep every night.
