Default Popularity Contest 14: The Legend of TK Flash's Gold

OK, here are the choices you have for the next popularity contest.

Top 50 Comics and Graphic Novels - Kirin
Top 50 Character Designs in Video Games - WildcatJF
Top 50 Dinosaurs - Octopus Prime
Top 50 Falselogic Posts - Falselogic
Top 50 Giants - Johnny Unusual (-1)
Top 50 Robot Masters - Positronic Brain
Top 50 Star Trek Episodes - Red Hedgehog
Top 50 Tabletop Games - JBear
Top 50 Things that should never have appeared on one of these lists - Bulgakov
Top 50 Video Games of the 21st Century - Issun

You can pick up to three. Don't pick any more or ALL your votes are null and void (picking less is OK). If you want to change your mind, let me know so I can alter the results accordingly. You have 4 days to choose. Please only choose a list you would actually vote on, just because we don't want a winning list with minimal participation.

Just to clarify; it's just Dinosaurs. Rivers wanted to do dragons later.

For the first time, I'm really chafing under the pick 3 limit. I had to cut a vote for one I've been voting for every previous round it's been up (including back when I was the one who first nominated it). Just know that I'm also voting for Star Trek in spirit... but not in practice. >_<

Does 'Top Comics and Graphic Novels' include comic strips?

I continue to chafe at the idea of any kind of 'Top 50 Things that Are Bad and You Are Dumb For Liking' List.

I don't know, but personally, I'd rather have strips be a separate list.

There aren't fifty good comic strips though, so it might be our only opportunity to vote for them.

You could do "Comic strips and webcomics" as a future category, which could get you more leeway.

That's how I was thinking of it. And, of course, 4-koma manga.

I think it would be interesting to have everything together on the same list - to see what people likes more and all of that.

I would probably have only comic strips on the top of my list.

Two of you voted for Falselogic's terrible joke entry.

Destil, Mogri, I want you both to go sit in the corner and think about what you've done. And no portables: you sit and stare at that wall.

(The wall will have a poster-size print of FalselogicAteThis.jpg on it.)

My initial inclination is if it's collected in one or more books (which almost everything is), go for it. We'll hash things out in more detail in a thread should I actually win one of these days.

In the end people can vote for what they want, but I do want to provide guidelines to make things easier to group/tally, especially in light of the shenanigans that go on with corporate-owned comic properties. My current thinking is one author/creative team and/or title title is an entry - so for creator-owned comics it would be the entire collected work, for corporate properties it would be a given team's story arc or run.

If we want to include strips, then, it would be the whole run for most. I have to admit I was originally thinking of story-driven stuff, but the line between that and gag strips gets *very* fuzzy in the middle (especially with webcomics), so I suspect in the end we'll just throw up our hands and say vote for what you like. Not that I'd personally mind having two lists emphasizing story and humor, but I expect once we ran one the other wouldn't get voted in for years, so it may be best to combine.

What about the Top 50 Tabletop games? Does that include RPG systems? If so, are they separated by edition?

My vote would be RPGs count, but separate editions don't because who wants to get into those weeds

I think JBear said that tabletop RPGs count, but instead of waiting for him to clarify, I'm just going to run my big mouth... er, fingers.

I'd make a case for for. There's a lot of difference between all the different D and Ds.

Next time, I'm nominating Top 50 Things. It's perfect. There's no arguing whether something qualifies for the list, because everything qualifies for the list.

Expect a much more detailed break down/set of guidelines when I eventually win (which will not be this time, because I've managed to lose an early lead literally a half-dozen times now). I don't have my draft document here at the office, but from what I can recall, the short version is: "RPG systems are welcome, because I'm not going to tell people what they can and can't vote for, but I'd encourage people to only vote for a few of their favourites, because I think that Top 50 RPG systems is a different, interesting list that I'd love to see some day. As for systems with multiple editions, my intention is to combine those votes, but voters are encouraged to cite their favourite edition and I'll break that down and discuss it when/if that game comes up in the list."

By 'things', do you mean just actual Things, or can abstract concepts be included?
