You are, actually, just as you were also mistaken a couple of years ago.

ETA: To save everyone the click/read, it was a gift that I commissioned for my ex-wife, depicting the primary setting for her unpublished fantasy novel. I commissioned it while we were still together, but it was only finished after we'd separated, so I never gave it to her; I don't think she even knows about it. I'd have to do some digging to find the specifications that I initially sent the artist, but he hit an impressive number of tiny details that would be completely lost on anyone who hadn't read it, and some of which are only really visible in the super high-res version that I linked to in the other thread.

Why do you think the observer skipped town?

Also, that was money well-spent, JBear.

damn, okay, maybe that 1/4 of the info needed originally. But good addition! I was thinking about the difference between turgid and flaccid

Also, JBear, as soon as I saw the one Peach posted, I hoped you'd bring that in here.

They all have beards, except for the elves.

It's not at all. I just really like McBride, especially laughingvarangians.jpg. And I think it's nice having some really well-done historical pieces in my illustration folder to temper the gonzo stuff. Man cannot live by pauldrons and studded leather alone.

Bauer is the 2005 Chablis of fantasy/folklore. I feel a bit bad about pulling him out so early.

Meanwhile,

I definitely need to brush up on the earlier illustrators. Having all Reynolds and no Rackhams can't be healthy.

Jia was coaxing that shit out of Cintiqs in the mid-aughts while guys like Mohrbacher were still operating at this this level.

Which isn't to besmirch Mohrbacher. I've loved seeing how far he's developed as an artist.

Speaking of angels, though:
