I don't think the boss lady is Aku. It seems like Aku is going to be far in the background most of the time while lesser villains rep him, mostly because it's inevitably going to be awkward to portray him without Mako.

I'm not sure I like blood in Samurai Jack but I guess I'll wait and see.

It showed up a few times in the original series IIRC? Always Jack's though and never much.

Maybe they're doing a Batman and front-loading the violence so the rest of the show feels more intense.

I remember feeling disappointed when I realized Jack was never going to cut anything but robots in the original run. Not that I crave blood for the sake of it, but it always feels contrived to give a character a bladed weapon and only let them use it in pointedly network-approved ways. And such contrivances stand out in this show more than others, since it's otherwise so elegantly constructed.

I'm not opposed to Samurai Jack going PG-13 - though the shot of the Fury shoving an arrow into another's eye was a hell of Rubicon. The original strained against it's rating, which often resulted in very clever storytelling, like Jack and the Ultra-Robots' bloodless brutality, but occasionally crossed over into the absurd.

I do hope it isn't all grimdark, all the time, though. But I'm not too worried.

I dunno, the "younger self yelling at him" bit in the trailer makes me think something else might be up.

I noticed that too. Very curious what's going on there.

Is the guy yelling about purpose the Scotsman? Because I didn't realize I wanted the Scotsman to be Mufasa but apparently that is the best.

Either way I am excited. Fighting the girl squad in a snowy forest that looks like the setting of Blind Archers has me thrilled. So glad the animation preserves the old style but obviously has a bigger budget.

Guys I need this NOW.

Hmm, at the final bit of the trailer the green flame turns into a sword, with the familiar swoosh noise. No idea what that means but yeah, going to assume something's up. Maybe he only ages if he uses it?

Well, there's precedent.

This pretty much summed up my feelings about the show when I first watched it. I remember feeling at the time that it was a very antiquated 80s cartoon concession. So it'll be nice to see other things presumably get cut up, just for the sake of variety.

I will say the Tale of X9 wouldn't have been nearly as affecting without robot murder, though.

I'm at work so I can't confirm, but apparently you can watch all of the original episodes of Samurai Jack on Adult Swim's website.

So, in case you wanna catch up or something.

I have a lot of faith in Genndy, so I'm not expecting Samurai Jack: Adult Party Cartoon. The trailer had more violence and blood, but still looked to have the trademark restraint that made Samurai Jack so interesting.

Yeah that. I'm betting the violence will be less SUDDENLY HURRICANE OF GORE and more just a subtle reduction in the number of foes that that have wires instead of veins.

And maybe a little bit less of those times when Jack gets his ass handed to him, but the only way they can show it is by drawing a few super thin red lines on him and making him dirty.

And maybe a few less instances where an enemy blade shred's Jack's clothes to ribbons, but leaves his skin magically untouched.

Actually no they need to keep that last one. Makes Jack look CRAZY GOOD at dodging.

Wouldn't be Samurai Jack if he didn't get the shirt kicked out of him every fight.

It's a good trailer.

Also, some sick line-readings.

I don't know, this was being hinted at in the original run. There are a few episodes suggesting Jack has been trapped in the future for a long time, and at least one that suggested it would be a long time before he was 'worthy' of returning. ( There is a vision of him as a bearded, grizzled badass similar to what we're seeing in the trailer.)

Anyway I'm happy to see this back though I admit I'm not sure how well the series will work without Mako. Jack is a cool guy to show get into fights but if you wanted a character episode you grabbed Aku. Mako was so versatile he could portray Aku as subtle and sinister, pompous and bombastic, genuinely intimidating or just flat out silly, all without seeming out of character. Aku being able to serve whatever role the episode needed him to do was a big part of what made the show work.

I'm really curious if they're going to call back to that scene. It was probably the most specific evidence in the original show of Jack's long term fate, and the fact that he's wearing a crown in it is even more interesting.

Another teaser, this time about the music. Fun to hear him beatbox and make all the noises before sending it to official production. The scenes with the wolf and the rain makes it clear they still use silence well.

Also a few more scenes we haven't been shown before. Crazy armor, and a motorcycle?

I want it noooow.
