I really hope this game is good! I'll probably avoid trailers and previews for the most part between now and release, but I don't think I'll preorder it. Dragon Age Inquisition was so bland that I don't have blind faith in BioWare to tell an engaging story right now, so they've got to prove to me that they can. I'll let the first reviews come in and grab it if it sounds good, I could definitely go for another Mass Effect game.

Suddenly and irrevocably hyped for this. I just thought, "oh, this is coming out sometime in 2017... right?" March 21! Excellent.

I haven't been paying attention at all. I missed the news that the Bioware forums were going down and the chance to collect all my embarrassing posts there. Geocities + xanga all over again! Yeah, I know there's probably some internet archaeology I could do if I was really curious. I'm not, just a little sad and wistful.

Oh, I found an unofficial Bioware forum with flame wars + the power to inspire tribal hatred for The Witcher. yay...

Last Bioware game I was very hyped for was Dragon Age: Inquisition, and I think that started like... four months before its stated release state. Which later changed. (no! bad thought)

The series share some writers, but I think they had different lead ones. At any rate, I've always liked ME much more than DA.

e: don't think this had a release date last time anyone posted here, but here is some other fresh (?) news about a station (?) rando.

I enjoyed the first trilogy immensely. Probably my fav franchise from the last round of consoles. Everything I've seen so far about the new one makes me believe it will live up to that.

It looks like there are signups for some sort of beta program? Pretty long application but I filled it out. Sounds like it's Xbox One/PS4 only.

Also, I barely touched ME3's multiplayer.

I've chosen Vanguard ever since it got "insanely cool" in Mass Effect 2. But it looks like charge might be detached from the Vanguard profile in this game? I dunno! I might just take charge and some tech abilities now. I think freezing stuff is also "pretty, if not insanely, cool." Also, perhaps you can only use 3 active abilities at once?

I would like to play this video game.

Yeah, I had a lot of fun with it. It was basically horde mode, but the limited class powersets combined with the varied enemy patterns made it pretty fun.

Cruelty. I'll be able to play 10 hours of this game five days before release. (IMO I should permitted to play for as long as I like) So will you! XB1 and PC only. You have to subscribe to EA's monthly whatever, but I was already planning on buying MEA through that for a mild discount.

Question remains as to how many times I need to politely lie to Origin and say, "no, really, I'm in Hong Kong right now" (Origin: "sure, whatever "to play this a bit early.

The multiplayer in ME3 was SUPER DUPER fun so I'm hoping ME4's is good too. I can guarantee you I'll be playing the hell out of it, but...I might not get this at launch? Zelda comes out first and that game looks like a huge time sink (in a good way).

I skipped out on ME3 since my only option for it was Origin, plus all the backlash about the ending. Maybe now's a better time to try it, I dunno. My way through the ME series, I tried a lot of different classes in 1 and probably liked Infiltrator the best in that. Then in 2 I just went with a Soldier because the bullet time power was fun.

Origin is fine. It has no good reason to exist, but it's just a store and launcher.

Looks good! I haven't watched the team briefing yet, but I like what I've seen of the crew from the trailer.

Funko Pops. I won't hear a word against them b/c they're how I knew these weirdos' names weeks ago. I'm starved for information.

Didn't realize this was "Jaal" when I watched the trailer earlier.

New video!

Also, character profiles are popping up on the site. Looks like Liam has some tech-based charged ability which apparently comes from ME3's multiplayer. That's neat!

I'm replaying ME2 and ho-boy, I love it, but charge is buggy as hell. I keep losing the ability to move after using it and then quickly my life. Also, did you know, Mass Effect's PC ports don't support controllers? Barbarism.

I have no idea if ME2's DLC is free now or if Origin has just finally synced up with my ancient Bioware account, causing it to try download that stuff yesterday through the client.

I kinda don't care about the character preview stuff but I am chomping at the bit for the "class preview" kind of videos that they've done in the past. know they'll do it eventually so I'm not worried or anything but that's what is most exciting to me about ME4. That and the chance to get back into multiplayer ME again.

I vaguely remember hearing that there's not actually a class system this time; you more or less build your own class.

There are set classes in MP, I believe. In SP, you can change your "profile" and mix and match skills. It's not entirely clear how the gameplay works. Looking forward to those videos too.

Man, it's sort of remarkable how limp all the marketing for this game has been. If I hadn't played the original trilogy I don't know if I'd be interested at all.

Step it up, Bioware

Agree. Apparently, there'll be more substantial footage coming out within the next few weeks. Anyway, new character profile~

Reddit via PC Gamer, apparently:
Quote:
  • There is no 'big bad' like the Reapers, no overarching threat.
  • The story is slightly more optimistic bent, 'instead of barreling towards certain doom'
  • The stories are 'of a more casual nature', says Michael Gamble
I can only hope. ME3 is fun as hell, but the apocalypse was kind of dull.
Quote:
  • Storymissions are a little more arena-like (than out in the open world)
Wasn't worried about this but good news.

Man, what is a Mass Effect game without an extremely dangerous and dramatic galaxy-spanning threat?

I liked the Reaper plot but that's because they were space cthulus, not because they were the crux of the drama. They were probably near the bottom of what I care about in Mass Effect verses the characters and their relationships. Taking out the vestigial good vs bad meter and lowering the stakes a little is some of the first stuff that's gotten me excited for this.

I don't rue the changes, it just seems more different than sequels usually do.
