It's hard to get excited about seeing most of the decisions you make over the course of 50+ hours reduced to points on a scorecard again. Why should I even care ab-

Well played.

But if it's actually a model in the same line as the original Mako, that suggests that ME4 takes place not long after ME3 - years or decades rather than centuries or millenia.

I'm sure coming up with a reason to call the Funmobile by a similar name to the last version will be the smallest of the narrative constraints they face.

The Control ending was a great sequel hook, but making the whole thing an extragalactic mission neatly sidesteps the problem of how nothing resembling the original setting remains in the Milky Way and all the different possibilities are radically different from each other.

Well, theoretically because if this is set after 3, some of the endings had ostensibly universe-ranging and obvious effects.

Of course, it could also be argued that the Reapers, and thus the range of the network, were only in the Milky Way, and thus it really doesn't matter what ending is "canon" or not, since the colonists wouldn't find out (if ever) until they find a way back home.

I thought it was pretty clear that the Reapers operated in our galaxy (and a ways outside of it when dormant). There's no indication that the Mass Relay network extended farther.

Distances between galaxies are really huge.

That's what I'm sayin', man! Get a Nice Reaper up in here.

Chill out inside his non-euclidian nightmare-guts. Let him take you where you're going.

Yeah, I don't see there being a problem in working around the ending to ME3. All you have to say is that the colonists left the Milky Way before/during the events of the trilogy, are only just now arriving, and thus were not affected by whatever the events of the ME3 ending were. IIRC there was never any indication that what happened at the end of ME3 had any impact outside of that one galaxy.

Yeah, they could just Dragon Break it up, or even pull a Dark Souls II, where unless you dig super hard, you're only vaguely aware they share the same setting.

Or you could just pick any ending but the green one as the canon ending as canon because then it's...like, everyone's normal so it's fine let's make another one about something that isn't related to the reapers.

Or hell, you could just say that it took place before ME3. Or, alternatively, that it takes place WAYYYYYYYYYY after ME3. Or that it could just be Final Fantasy situation where this new one is totally unrelated despite sharing some characteristics.

All I know is if Bioware wants to make another RPG where I can shoot guys in space, that's awesome, and I don't care about the particulars because at the end of the day it's a video game and it doesn't matter. The lore doesn't have to be perfect.

I am okay with any amount of lore handwaving as long as it gets us that elcor squadmate we've always deserved.

C'mon Bioware, do the right thing

I just hope that they rework how you get your endings this time around. They should take a note from Dragon Age with how it handles things.

I'm tentatively interested in this. I never played ME3 because it was only available on Origin among my ME-capable options, but I can get this on PS4 eventually.

It's just Bioware's quality is so unpredictable. ME2 was my favorite overall Bioware game, BG2 is an all-time classic, ME1 was fun but not super great, and nearly everything else I've played by them is either a total stinker or something totally unremarkable sold off the hype of their good games.

I'm not particularly interested in any that stem from the diseased plot of ME3.

You're good people.

I still nurse a tiny spark of hope for the possibility of a non-human(oid) PC, too.

This thread prompted me to go do some reading on ME, and I just found out that some of the post-release DLC for 3 included Shepard and an increasingly irate Javik acting in a new Blasto movie. How did I not know about this?

That scene is glorious. As is all of the Citadel DLC which everyone needs to own.

Mass Effect 3's DLC is kind of keeping me from getting too far in the game. I doubt I'll be able to play the game more than once, and DLC that needs to be done before a certain point will have to be purchased, but there is more than $50 of single player DLC for that game, which is quite a bit more than I payed for the whole trilogy. What ME3 DLC is worth the money?

Definitely "From Ashes" (this is the obligatory DLC pack that should've been in the main game, it's very well-integrated and adds a lot) and "Citadel," and maybe "Leviathan." Do Citadel after beating the game, because it's basically the epilogue to the whole trilogy and a light-hearted palate cleanser rather than having anything to do with ME3 proper. If you really like Aria, "Omega."

From Ashes is essential, basically. Citadel is a lot of fun. The other two are forgettable and not really worth it. Leviathan introduces something that seems like it should be revelatory but mostly just feels tacked on.

I still haven't done my definitive 2nd playthrough of ME3. I should get on that...

Did they ever fix that glitch in Leviathan where the between-mission crew dialogue didn't have proper spacing in it? It made it sound like everyone was amped-up on combat stims...

Another vote for From Ashes. If only for Javik being a dick to everyone. You want to purchase it as early as possible.

Citadel, as noted, can be purchased and played after beating the game. It's pretty much all dialogue and about the characters. If you just want more combat or if you aren't very invested in the characters you'll feel cheated, but I consider it the greatest DLC for any game ever because it feels like a very intimate goodbye with all sorts of nods to previous moments in the series. Also I find this bit hilarious.

Leviathan is just odd, I feel like you could just watch the final cutscene and be good. I never noticed a glitch in the dialogue. And I didn't purchase Omega.

Gah now I want to play this again. Man I wish I had time to do a Let's Play of this.
