Why aren't we talking about last night's episode yet? Greg was so great in it! And the look on Steven's face when he realized his dad was actually all better now. Although, did anyone else think the animation was a little stiff in the beginning?

I'm quite slowly making my way through this show. On the one hand I want to be caught up, but on the other hand I want to savor it. It's so good.

Just watched "Tiger Millionaire" last night. It's a pretty great encapsulation of what makes the show special. Fun characters, silliness, and a heart of gold. It's impressive how the show manages to juxtapose nonsense with emotion and still feel genuine. And one of the characters switches gender just for fun and everyone's cool with it!

Also, this image:

I'm working through this very slowly. The "balanced breakfast" gag in Together Breakfast got me laughing, especially the cut back to Steven's absurd expression. Great show.

It's interesting to see how the show emphasizes the dichotomy between the Gems and Greg, just like yesterday's episode.

Pearl can be a bit one-track minded, but it's really heartening to see how much she really (and the rest of the gems) really care for Steven.

Sadie's (and Lars's) characterization is also being treated very well. What did everyone think of the last episode?

I was rather surprised to see Sadie and Lars vigorously making out. I guess I don't really have a good feel for what is or is not considered to be appropriate children's programming these days, and I was certainly fine with it, but I can't recall seeing that in a kids cartoon before.

I just watched the last few episodes. Island Adventure was wonderful, especially the part during the song. There were already a lot of episodes that got to me, but this and Joking Victim had the strongest effect on me.
Keep the City Weird! freaked me out a bit. At the end, it just made me sad.

I love this show.

So, this most recent episode has inspired me to concoct a crazy theory of my own:

I think they may be hiding the truth in plain sight. Ronaldo was dead-on about "Polymorphic sentient rocks" (i.e. the Gems), so maybe he's also right about their plan to "hollow out the earth"? Perhaps the schism between the Gems we know and Lapis Lazuli and the rest is that they were sent to harvest Earth for resources but decided to defend humanity instead? And now Lapis is on her way to "The Great Diamond Authority" or whoever to let them know what's up?

I could be way off base, but it's fun to speculate.

I'll say. This could have been a post in the Through the Looking Gate thread:

"But... but the truth!"

"Maybe the truth just isn't what you thought it was."

"Sure it is! Don't get so hung up on these minor facts! Truth is about more than that. Truth is a feeling in your gut that you know is true. Truth is searching for anything that proves you're right, no matter how small, and holding onto that no matter what."

"That kinda sounds like the opposite of truth..."

And Pearl touched on it a bit too, albeit through the lens of some casual racism:

"Humans just lead short, boring, insignificant lives, so they make up stories to feel like they're a part of something bigger. They want to blame all the world's problems on some single enemy they can fight."

I'm way behind but I'm slowly catching up. And, yeah, as Sprite said Tiger Millionaire is pretty hilarious and sweet. Looking forward to seeing where the show goes.

Also, didn't realize till I looked it up that the mayor is voiced by Joel "Creator of Mystery Science Theatre 3000" Hodgson.

I lost it when Garnet mixed up Hoppy and Hopper. I was about to say, if I were her I would've done the same thing.

I haven't seen the new one yet, but I really liked the episode where Connie's parents wanted to meet Steven's family.

Also, it looks like the big statue they live in is a fusion of all three of them plus Rose. that's a neat little detail.

My favorite part of that one is any other show would have had Alexandrite for some last minute power up. Seeing as we've already had that situation, they use it for something really mundane.

Hoppy and Hopper were totally Frog from Chrono Trigger and Usagi Yojimbo, right?

This episode was hopping great. I wish Garnet really was in shonen/adventure anime after seeing this. Goku and Luffy just can't compare.

The temple has ten arms, not eight. Mysterious.

I only count eight. The placement of gems in the temple I think is something of a clue.

steven universe is the weird-ass children's show from space we all need and deserve.

Ronaldo toes the line between spooky and ludicrous really well.

That's just a statue of a dude fighting some babies. It's untitled, and therefore not a reference to anything in particular; the sculptor is Gustav Vigeland, who made a large installation in Oslo containing many sculptures depicting scenes of human activity, some more mundane than others. The one with the man fighting the babies is probably the most famous, but there are others that are about as weird, including The Monolith. It wasn't the only reference going on in that fight scene.

Steven loves food, and food loves him, and both he and his loved ones show their love using food, but food and love are not the same. He is learning about the difficulty of conveying emotion through the coarse physical medium in which humans are forced to live.

Yeah, that episode went places I wasn't quite expecting. It is obvious in afterthought but I had completely forgotten the prepared lunch thing by the episode's final act. I also is a satisfying reveal of Rose Quartz. Also, based on what was said about Rose giving up half of her life force or whatever, does that mean the remainder of her became Lion. And when Stephen eventually grows old and passes on, will Rose Quartz return?
