I'm really enjoying Arin and Suzy's current playthrough of Metal Gear Solid 5. I remember getting bored very fast when they played through Presentable Liberty (however, that game's premise that doesn't really work when two people are playing), so I was skeptical going into this one. I'm not sure how long they're going to keep going with it, but it's been a pleasant surprise and I would heartily recommend at least checking out the first two episodes!

I really like Arin and Suzy's dynamic; they remind me a bit of when my wife and I play games together. It's a nice break from yelling (especially after Mario Maker; good lord, that was a horror show. Thanks, Ross!).

I've decided I hate the name "Arin". Aaron, fine. Arin? Absolutely not.

Best intro for Game Grumps that I've seen so far.

I hope one day they play Tecmo Super Bowl. That is my dream.

I thought Jontron was the racist. Danny is the homophobe.

Hold on, where do you get that Danny is homophobic?

No idea about either of those, but I was referencing the gunsmoke LP where Danny spent like 1/5th of it making racist "indian" jokes.

Oh both of them have made ... Questionable jokes and accents coming from two white dudes. I wouldn't say they "are" racist, but some of the jokes are for sure likely offensive.

They're your stereotypical white nerds in that respect; saying things and telling jokes that they think are funny without ever thinking too much about the underpinnings of the things they say.

I'm a big Grumps fan so I'm probably more inclined than most to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I don't get the sense from them that there's any real malice or prejudice behind the jokes. When I hear them talking in contexts other than shrieking at video games, they seem like genuinely thoughtful and nice people who are not out to offend anyone. That said, the jokes are still problematic and I wish they wouldn't make them, and people are certainly within their rights to find them offensive.

My experience with the more racy Game Grumps jokes is that they never bothered me but I don't laugh at them. Those are never the good episodes anyway.

Danny and Arin are at their best when they're being buddies or telling cool stories: Tecmo Bowl, Ice Hockey, and Kirby's Dream Course come to mind as having really good bits.

I find the really long series tend to have the best running jokes/characters and the best "real" moments. Wind Waker had episodes where they opened up about their dealing with depression.

The thing about improve comedy is it's going to fail at times. Either it's just not funny at all or it crosses a line. It's raw. It's totally fine if people don't like it.

I was starting and stopping posts for the past couple days but I guess this is the best way to say it: I think Danny and Arin are pretty benign and nothing I've heard from them has struck me as racist or homophobic. They make jokes and some of the jokes are off-colour/not politically correct, but I've yet to hear anything they've said that comes across as genuinely mean-spirited. Their sense of humor is a bit puerile (Arin sure does like poop jokes), but they seem like decent human beings to me.

But it's up to you what you find offensive. Some people's buttons are pushed more easily than others.

To my knowledge, the only actual hatemonger in Game Grumps was JonTron, who has since kindly quarantined himself to his own show.

Arin and Brian's playthrough of Rad Gravity reminded me I've thought about LPing it here once or twice. I played that game a lot as a kid, I'm pretty sure I remember where all the hidden things are, and I even know of a way to break the game wide open which could be fun. But now I'm concerned if I even tried it I'd be too tempted to recycle some of the jokes they already made. At least they only made it to Turvia.

Should I do it anyway? I've been wanting a miniproject to focus on, and it's a fairly short game so it would be perfect.

Steve-O was a surprise. I tried to watch it but his laugh just made it unbearable. Man. He sounded terrible.

Spoony - I'd say go for it if you have the interest in doing so.

Listened to a few minutes of that Steve-o one, skipping around. At some point he was talking about all the head trauma he's experienced and how it started to affect him. And how he might still be fine right now, but in ten or twenty years, he might be all fucked up. Kind of sobering really.

Back when i used to listen to Loveline regularly steve-o showed up every few months it seemed like and he's entertaining but holy fuck his voice. And it's gotten worse!

This episode reminded me that I own madworld but never played more than like an hour of it. I actually somehow own a shitload of Wii games I never played much of.

Man, I hate to be one of those Suzy haters ... but she kind of ruined the NES Remix series when she started participating.

After jumping ship from some other LPers I've been trying real hard to get into the Grumps as my new bag, but man, I've got real mixed feelings. Arin and Dan seem like a pair of pretty legit decent, well-meaning bff dudes who truly love their fans, and even the "wander around fucking up aimlessly and screaming about how bad the game design is because they weren't paying attention to direct instructions they were given or using any of their items correctly" aspect that crops up constantly i can sorta overlook...

...But, man, guys. That's a lot of racist accents and jokes. Like, some of y'all tiptoe around it or excuse it a bit in this thread, but nooo. Nuh-uh. It's very definitely there and pretty blatant. They go to the Racist Asian Accent well a lot. Occasionally other ones, and there's a lot of "I'm Jewish so let's make a lot of uncomfortable Jewish Racism cracks because haha look how terrible and awful they are rib nudge rib nudge so let's keep making them", but jeeeeze the Racist Asian Accent bit is a well they dip into constantly, in nearly everything they do. Blah blah blah Ignorant White Gamer Guy, but it really shouldn't be excused, after all the shit that's been going on the past few years or so, c'mon it's 2016 and they should definitely know better.

I want to like GG, they're very likeable guys, but that angle is really, really hurting it for me.
