I think posting Josh Kirby art is kind of cheating, yeah.

I had many adventures in my day, but now I'm an old man who would rather sit in the tavern than go questing for examples of terrible fantasy art. I can tell that you're an enterprising band of young adventurers, though, so I'll give you something you might find interesting: a map to a trove of long-lost treasures. Best of luck to you, and beware of monsters!

Between the random cool-sounding-word mishmash title, the techno-dragon with the arm cannon in the back, and the dual-wielding wraith dragon, I'm pretty sure the author stole my second grade classmate's sketchbook.

Probably. When he wasn't busy publishing articles about how terrible black people are.

I'm gonna be honest, as distorted and insane as this image is, and i fully acknowledge and accept this, I still love it.

Because thighs are delicious.

Chun-Li is fantastic.

I may only joined TT because I thought it was the Return of Thunder Thighs.

I have not been disappointed.

But this is for EMBARRASSING fantasy art! Not stuff that's rad as hell! Let's have some more of that. So OK, apparently there's this company called Avalanche Press that did a bunch of 3.5 sourcebooks based on various historical real world settings. They gave us that Arabian Nighty thing back on the first page, but surely that was a fluke!

Well, a girl in a bikini for a sunken city at least makes a little sense...

OK, it does seem to be a bit of a pattern...

Oh what the hell! What even is that!

Anyway, let's bring it all back around full circle.

And in this corner, Vlad "Blood Prince of Wallachia" The Impaler!

I haven't seen such haphazard type on a publisher product in a while, awesome!

OK, with that one, obviously your eye is going to be drawn to either the out of place lingerie model, or Dracula(?)'s incredibly bad face, but the real gem in that one is hiding right above the word "Vlad."

That reminds me of how "The Slayer's Guide to Amazons" included a helpful centrefold picture.

While on the subject of nipples, this is the book my wife has just finished reading:

During the first quarter or so of the book, she felt it was quite a good story betrayed by a loathsome cover. Later on she decided that the story and the cover completely deserved each other. I don't think she'll be reading the rest of the series.

You know who has some more questionable covers than you'd think? White Wolf. Both in the sense you'd expect...

And also...

Well OK. A while ago, someone told me that there was such a thing as World of Darkness: Gypsies. Now, my first thought on hearing that is that that's pretty @$#%ed up. I mean, it's bad enough how so many games have witches as basically demon worshipping monsters in human form, when that was something people used to accuse each other of and use as an excuse for lynching, and more recently the term has been revived for use by modern hippie types. Here though, we're talking about an actual real life ethnicity that gets stereotyped as evil magic people, and have kinda spent the last 500 years being legally discriminated against, sterilized, and killed (including some descriminatory laws still active in the U.S. when this was printed).

So... when making such a sourcebook, you guys made sure to be totally sensitive to all that and not perpetuate crazy racist stereotypes, right? You didn't go and do something stupid like put some bloated monster hag sorceress-crone right on the front cover, right?

First time, I thought it said "Blood Wolf" Then I finally noticed the "the" in there. But did you know, if you look REALLY closely and believe in faeries, the full title is "Blood of the Wolf!"

And here I was excited about BLOOD the WOLF being a missing Gung-Ho Gun from Trigun until I noticed the "of"

I was gonna say it sounded more like a randomly-generated Diablo II champion monster but then I remembered it would have had a third descriptor in the title, e.g. "Blood Corpse The Wolf".

Don't know where the bottom three come from, just things I pulled up in random image searches for wallpapers a while back. The top one is part of a series of...uh, terrible fantasy art for some miniatures game.

Huh, so apparently pigeon toes aren't necessarily a Japanese moe thing.

As for the first... I thought that was a winged elf with tragically dislocated wings until I enlarged it, and realized that perched on her shoulder was an albino eagle with tragically dislocated wings.

Yeah, the feather-hair harem does not set off my "Dude, seriously?" sense. The rest of that though is breaking impressive new ground on what parts of the body need armor. So much on your knees and shoulders you can barely move at all, and then pretty much none everywhere else, that's impressive.

Boris Vallejo did it better. At least when he painted fantasy girls lounging around, they had the good sense to be naked.

Somehow, I'm thinking thongs are probably not so much part of a justifiable tribal wardrobe.
