I think my favorite short is Appreciating Your Parents, but only because the skit after it is so good.

Good? He's the best. This is probably what killed the last MST3K thread.

I've never seen any Cinematic Titanic, and I've only seen one full episode of Riifftrax, which was for one of the Star Wars prequels (Attack of the Clones?) As you can probably tell, it didn't make the biggest impression on me.

I did like the Rifftrax trailer for The Last Airbender (the "waterbending" sequence gets turned into one of those airline "make sure your seatbelts are securely fastened" speeches), but I don't think I can ever sit through that movie again, no matter how good the rest of the riffs are.

I'm convinced I'm the only person on earth who enjoys Castle Of Fu-Manchu, haha. I'm also quite in the middle when it comes to the great internet-killing Joel vs. Mike debate, I like 'em both. I will concede that Mike tends to be the funnier, sharper riffer, but I like Joel as a character more. He shoulda kept the goatee.

A lot of the greats have been mentioned already! Many of them are from the second half of Season 8, which is quite the amazing stretch of good Scifi Mike episodes. You could start at Giant Spider Invasion and watch straight through to the end of the season with Overdrawn At The Memory Bank and be quite satisfied. And why hasn't anybody mentioned Giant Spider Invasion yet? Packers won the Super Bowwllll

My personal favorite short is A Date With Your Family.

Rifftrax is more gold for the public domain shorts and the many video-on-demand titles they offer. They are just far better riffing targets because just...well, certain movies from the 70s and 80s were just completely insane.

I think the riffs for The Room and Birdemic are classic stuff - but both are even better if you've watched the movies beforehand.

Concerning Cinematic Titanic, their version of Santa Claus Conquers The Martians is, in my opinion, better than the MST version. (And it's available on Hulu for those interested.) That said, that movie still makes me want to go back in time and dropkick everyone involved. How would any kid "enjoy" this? Most of it is unfunny nightmare fuel!

Last Known Chance is a great lesser known short.

Engine Driver: "Why don't they look, Ralph? Tell me, why don't they look?"

Crow: "You're deep, Ernie."

Also, Last Clear Chance is great, but mainly because the skit afterwards involves Mike stabbing himself in the eye with a sandwich.

But this is by far the best bit in the history of the show.

It's a shame the entire rest of that particular episode ain't nothin' special, because that truly is the best bit of them all. I don't think I've ever not laughed at it.

Finished Mitchell. It was funny but why is it everyone's favorite?

Moving on to Brain that Wouldn't Die because after Joel left I had to see how they handled the transition.

...poorly?

I like the bit in The Screaming Skull where Mike very carefully chooses a golf club to smash the skull, while screaming in terror.

Also, in I Accuse My Parents, when Joel has the bots do art therapy ("Latent Parent Trap Syndrome - man should be in a straightjacket!"). Homestly, I Accuse My Parents is another great ep. "I won, I won, I can't believe I finally WON... something?"

I like MST3k, but it's really hard to actually sit through an entire episode. The movies themselves are usually so incredibly boring that I end up tuning out or falling asleep. I like the episodes with the shorts the most just because I can watch them in chunks if I need to.

Also: The Incredible Melting Man is the secret best episode.

My wife and I are going to see it! We've already seen the original Rifftrax version, but even if it's exactly the same this time around it'll be worth seeing it with other people on the big screen.

I hope the sound levels are balanced - when we watched the original riff with the movie, we would have to turn up the volume to hear the movie dialogue, but then all of the bird noises (which NEVER STOP) were ear-splittingly loud and annoying. That's the only thing that's kept us from watching it again until now.

Yeah, I've been excited about it since Manos. I like that Rifftrax Live has become almost like this whole other season of MST3k where you can talk about it and look forward to it and everybody sees it all at once rather than on demand and whenever.

Anyone pick up the Team Four Star amateur rifftrax of Dragonball Evolution? The trailer for it wasn't great (aside from "WOLF FANG GUN!"), but maybe it was a bad choice of clips.

Holy crap. I knew Birdemic was bad, but I didn't know it was so insanely, misguidedly bad as to rival Manos in terms of quality. The Riffs were as hilarious as always, of course. My face hurt after the theater from equal parts laughing and looking at the screen with my jaw on the floor thinking, "Did that really just happen? Someone thought this was a good idea??"

Solapnels.

I still remember when my dad bought Magic Sword because it had Barrymore in it. I warned him they'd skewered it on MST, but he wanted to see it anyways.

I was out of the country and missed it.

Any chance they'll be releasing this or the Manos Live one on their site? I looked for info on that but couldn't find any. Also, did they announce any upcoming events?

It looks like they put their recordings of Rifftrax Live events on DVD and sell 'em eventually. I dunno what the turnaround is like, though.

Hey! Listen!

Fathom Events will be having reruns of the Manos and Plan 9 Riff Live events tomorrow and next Thursday! I didn't even know there had been a Plan 9 one, so it's gonna be awesome

My wife and I are going to the Manos repeat tomorrow night. I hesitated to show her the original MST3k Manos episode for a while because I thought it might bore her too much (compared to other episodes), but she loved it.

I went to the first live showing of Plan 9 in San Francisco back in early 2008, which was awesome, but not as good as their first two live shows (Daredevil and Over the Top), because those were in much smaller venues and the whole experience felt more personal. They did Q&A at the end of those first two shows, which was awesome.

Paul F. Tompkins can make any episode of Comedy Bang Bang 10x better, so I bet this will be amazing.
