Default Television Time: TT mini reviews

...because the other thread is so splendid, but many of us spend a good chunk of our time watching the boob tube, too.

Anyway, finally finished Season 3 of The Shield last night. I can't fathom how I thought this season was slow when I first tried to watch it. Onward to Season 4!

Well, I officially have a new thread to live in.

Speaking of the Shield, Shawn Ryan's new network show The Chicago Code is getting solid reviews. Anyone have a chance to check it out? It's a procedural, but apparently one that takes a long view and really uses the city as a character, both of which are things I love.

Dexter on Instant View only goes up to Season 2. So I guess Dexter stopped existing after then. Oh well.
Cue "That would have been better than the series continuing" jokes
Also I'm beginning to watch Firefly. Well, I've watched the pilot and have yet to get around to continuing.

I just finished watching Firefly for the second time, this time with my Mum. She really enjoyed it, and I think I liked it even more upon a second viewing; the only downside now is the re-surfacing of extreme feelings of sadness and frustration as I think about what could have been. Blast you Fox! It is pretty much the best show ever.

Indeed.

I've heard good things, but had also heard it was a procedural, so I didn't pay much attention. The last bit of your sentence makes me think of The Wire, though, so (even assuming it will never be as good as The Wire) I might check it out this summer.

What's a TV?

Also, we already have threads for the only three shows I've watched in the past five years (Venture Bros., Arrested Development, Community, Walking Dead, Mad Men) so this thread is irrelevant. Lock it down it's for dumb people.

You'd like The Shield, though. The main dude just made a hooker give a blowjob to his gun.

Not watching Breaking Bad = Doing It Wrong

And yeah, what Calories said about The Shield. Vic also chokes a gang-banger with his own bong then cracks it over his head.

This example and mine above that are two reasons why I'm confused about how I had previously felt about Season 3.

A long, great look at party down from the cast and crew.

I just watched the whole series a couple weeks ago and it is on the level of arrested development level of great show canned to early. Reading that article made me a bit sad, knowing how much of a pet project it really was for everyone (people getting paid shit but still loving doing it).

I finished up Pushing Daisies last night. It made me feel painfully alone (damn you, distance!), yet at the same time appreciative of the mere concepts of love and friendship. In some ways, I both love and loathe Chuck -- the relationship between her and Ned is terribly sweet, but I just want to hit her over the head sometimes! The entire supporting cast is great, and even their guest stars/recurring characters were full of life. It makes sense, considering everything.

Cougar Town is where it's at.

I've also been watching Big Love. Just waiting for the discs for season 4 to become available on Netflix. First three seasons were great.

So I caught the season premiere of Justified last night. I never saw the first season, but I found myself missing Deadwood so much that I stayed on the channel just to see if Timothy Olyphant played a good role.

The episode was actually pretty good. Did anyone see the first season of this?

I have seen a couple, they were some pretty good stand alone stories. I came into the show wanting Timothy Olyphant acting like a badass and thats what I got. Also I got endless mike playing a badass Attorney which is cool.

Justified's first season is great. A lot of really interesting individual stories, and a great overarching plot in the last few episodes.

The Chicago Code's first episode was very good. Even if it turns out to lean towards procedural rather than serial, it's Shawn Ryan, so it should be entertaining. I don't want to throw around a name like The Wire that easily, but it could potentially be as close as a network will get to that.

I've only seen the first three seasons, too. I hear some crazy shit goes down in Season 4, I think Abby and I will probably get back into it after we wrap up The Shield.

Disagree (in terms of Arrested Development), but it is a good show. I've only seen the first six or seven episodes, though.

Big Love's fourth season is pretty balls-out ridiculous. So much manic shit happens in every episode that it came pretty close to making me lose any interest at all in any of the characters. The fifth so far has been somewhat more reasonably paced, though.

I'm surprised that no one made fun of the fact that I said I've only seen three shows and then promptly listed more than three shows.

Yeah but you only watch four good shows and four is close enough to three that it hardly makes a difference.

An Idiot Abroad is currently running here. The Karl Pilkington you see on TV is obviously as much a fictional character as an actual person, but that doesn't make the show any less entertaining. His musings are always a riot.

Pilkington (the person) is a pretty good actor, although he occasionally drops his persona. For example, in the Mexican episode you could tell he was enjoying himself during the Judas fireworks, even though he was supposed to be frightened and confused.

Two nights ago I watched the pilot for Lookwell, a 1991 TV show starring Adam West written by Conan O'Brien. It wasn't picked up, so it's the only episode of the show.

It's also hilarious.

That's true. Sorry, Walking Dead. You had potential, but you wasted it.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is about the only thing I watch on TV aside from wrestling and football. I think the reason why I like the show is that none of the characters have any redeeming qualities.

The last season was kinda weak though.

I think I've finally come to terms with Friday Night Lights, just after it ended.

It wasn't the show I wanted it to be, but it was an excellent show nevertheless. If that makes any sense.

Not really, but it definitely was excellent and had an excellent conclusion, which is more than most shows manage to do.
