Default "manga are comics too" or "teg ruins everything"

AssClass maintains this look for twenty whole volumes with no repeats of facial expressions or colour patterns, despite the intentionally limited expressiveness of its main character. The notes for the fifth volume touch upon Matsui spending days picking out exactly what shade of white to use for Koro sensei's poker face. I appreciate that kind of craftsmanship.

I've always been fond of the crazed, desperate expression on this one, but I think it's the fact that the sandwich looks absolutely disgusting while having nothing obviously wrong with it is what sells it. Did Moyoco Anno seriously only do like this one great adult drama and basically nothing else of interest?

The colours on this one look way more saturated in real life. This is a great example of making a minimalist look out of what is in reality a very complicated image. The Japanese or European edition is split into two volumes with an opposing cover for the second, but I don't think it's as strong as this one.

The blue part is actually a narrow dustjacket that's glued to the book's french flaps, so if you're a perv you can look underneath and see that she's wearing a towel because this was published in the sixties. You perv. Very clever concept as long as you don't mind that you can never ever bring it anywhere without constant fear of ripping it.

I like the mixed media approach of taking a photo of a toy to use as the cover to a comic book. That ol' Chip Kidd magic still draws 'em in. Also, pushes the limits of good taste quite nicely.

The juxtaposition of the uncharacteristically soft, painterly approach and the gruesome subject matter is, no joke, what got me to buy this book. It is, much like its contents, beautiful horror.

The whole line of Black Jack softcovers followed a strict template of a four-colour pattern with a debossed stylized surgical incision in the center, giving way to a scan of original untranslated panels on grainy newsprint underneath. The only exception is this final volume, where the pattern breaks and forms this TV test pattern-esque design, with the debossed portion replaced by an actual cut-out in the middle of the cover, exposing the first page of the book beneath, as if to say "you did it. You made it this far with us and you finally broke through." It feels rewarding and climactic in a way that a collection of pulpy medical comics shouldn't be expected to be.

tldr: I really like covers that are just a face staring straight at you

Probably because that onion hanging off the left, along with the bread markings makes it look like a caterpillar or centipede.

I actually think I'd chalk it up to the watery consistency of the mayo. Notice that it's running all the way down her arm

As an Evangelion fan i found it disappointing. She just focus on the aspects of Anno i don't care about - his nerd habits. It's a good manga though.

I remember liking a lot the anime of Hataraki Man. Never read the manga. I wish more stuff of her was brought over...

This recent one caught my eye even before I realized it was a Junji Ito book.

I'm not going to post any of them, but TRDJ mentioned the Cooke "widescreen" covers from 2014 earlier, so here's the complete set.

Well, I will throw one in, because

If you have a chance to link to Darwyn Cooke drawing He-Man fighting Skeletor, you do it.

(I'm partial to the Superman / WW one that looks totally innocent until you look at it with a slanted eye and realise that Superman's about an inch away from motorboating her.)

For those who may be curious, an admirable chunk of Steranko's Marvel stuff was reprinted in Captain America Special Edition and Nick Fury Special Edition. Nice 80s baxter paper floppies, two issues each, that can be obtained for a reasonable price. The former even includes a very pretty romance comic Steranko did for Marvel.
