Default Talking Time Fundraiser 2016: Keep the servers going, y'all!

Hi everyone,

The annual campaign to maintain the servers is live:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/t...me/x/3795395#/

If you use this forum, please consider contributing a few bucks so we can keep the lights on after the current hosting period expires (at the beginning of August).

This campaign runs for two weeks, because previous campaigns have raised about 95% of their funding in the first two weeks and, uh, the next server bill comes due in about 18 days. Yeah, so. I set the end of the campaign for a few days into the month so there'll be time for us working schlubs on a monthly salary to cash our July paychecks.

Thanks for supporting the forums!

Man, I wanted to contribute to this but my fucking parents decided to buy a car and now I have to cover more of the expenses than usual.

I didn't see a way to contribute some amount that wasn't one of the listed tiers?

I did it I got it!

I don't... actually know what to ask for with the custom avatar. This is exactly why I didn't take the article last year because I couldn't think of anything I really wanted written about.

I should get paid before this ends so I'll throw something in, most likely money but possibly a box of chocolates.

Donated but forgot to select a perk.

HEY PARISH INSTEAD OF WATERCOLORS I WANT YOU TO JUST MAKE A SKULL IN MS PAINT WITH A TOP HAT AND MONOCLE. DO NOT SPEND MORE THAN 5 MINUTES ON IT. IF THERE IS ANY HINT OF ACTUAL EFFORT IN MY CUSTOM AVATAR I WILL BE VERY SAD.

Just click the back it button and don't select a perk.

I'll be donating when I get paid tomorrow.

I noticed that the various tiers still make reference to the Ridiculously Posh Server which, if I correctly understood what Parish was saying before, is far above and beyond what TT actually needs. If our funding level actually gets that high, would it make more sense to just pay for a server that comfortably suits TT, and then put the rest of the money aside for the next time the bill comes due? Apologies if I'm missing something obvious here.

Regardless of how the logistics work out, I'm very grateful to Parish for keeping us afloat.

Happily dropped some in again. I don't post much, but this is still my favorite corner of the internet.

Any chance I can per-emptaively contribute to next year's fund in September or some shit? I can't do anything next month, but maybe I can make next year's server drive a little easier in advance.

I don't have MS Paint, I use a Mac. Draw this skull for me in MS Paint and I will create a watercolor rendition of the MS Paint drawing.

Higher up the scale is there some sweet spot between cost and the performance the forum needs?

I think a while ago he mentioned that we're currently on the the needlessly posh server, and our current usage is under even what the basic dedicated offers.

So if I'm remembering that correctly, we really don't need anything more than a basic dedicated server.

If we need more power we can always use what we've saved for future years to upgrade... Or are we tied to a single plan for an entire year?

Yeah, you get a 25% discount or so if you pre-purchase a year's worth of hosting, so I'd rather pay in a big ol' chunk.

A bunch of people have donated at the $100 without claiming the reward, and that's lame. Not that they donated, but that they declined a goodie. I'm going to do one for them anyway, whether they like it or not.

I refuse to believe that Macs don't come with some sort of standard image editing program that's just awful.

It's certainly not intended as a slight! A illustrated blog post would be delightful! It's just... donating to talking time is its own reward, and I feel guilty asking for anything more. We're all just happy to keep this place running.

Man, this always rolls around at my poorest points.

I'll see what I can do. If for some reason this extends to mid-to-late August, I'll definitely kick something in. I'd offer to do some sort of supplemental reward for backers, but no one bit last year.

Just know that this place is vitally important to me and I appreciate all of you helping it run year after year. You all are awesome.

I was going to donate without a perk too, but the prospect of a watercolor Flammie avatar was too good to pass up!

I still can't decide on my avatar, and the best I've come up with is pink melee Samus doing one of her moves, but KFroog thinks that's too complicated for an avatar.
