What's that? Never go to Australia, you say? On it.

Oh, and good job putting this at the top of a new page. Guess I'm not visiting this thread again for a few months.

You can't post that and then not post the babies on their own!

They're basically born with adult-sized feet, and just...Grow into them.

Nature is so great.

I knew a kid whose parents got him clothes four sizes too big so he'd grow into them.

I never knew nature would do the same to birds.

Yeah, always be skeptical of "cute" big-cat videos. If they're:

- obese
- multiple tigers housed together (they're solitary animals), or big cats of different species housed together
- in a person's house
- being physically touched by a human being
- cubs separated from their mother (obvs zoo hospitals are an exception)

Press X to Doubt. If it's not a tiger farm, it could easily be a facility that values your clicks and attention over the cats' welfare.

I ended up doing a deep dive today on accredited sanctuaries and zoos. There's a lot to unpack, since even accredited animal holdings present all sorts of moral and animal rights issues, and there are at least a few non-accredited holders that treat their animals more or less on-par. I do think that a lot of the most visible sancturies in the US, like Big Cat Rescue, are doing a general good, since they're dealing with exotic animals that smooth-brains or carnie-ass roadside barkers decided to buy, and their certs are on the up and up.

It'd be nice if I didn't have to google the accreditation of every animal vid I watch, yet here we are.

Not really cute, but definitely fascinating. What are all those hair-like things on its face? Do they have some kind of sensory property or are they just hairs? Also I love its lil goblin teeth and googly eyes. They make it look like some kind of dorky D&D monster.

A handy chart for identifying the giant spiders that haunt your nightmares! At least you'll know what species is robbing you of sleep right before you wake up screaming!

Falselogic's sets of dots squick me out way, way more than that benign ant picture.

In theory, spiders could eat every human on Earth in one year.

Quote:
The total biomass of all adult humans on Earth is estimated to be 287 million tons. Even if you tack on another 70 million-ish tons to account for the weight of kids, it's still not equal to the total amount of food eaten by spiders in a given year, exceeding the total weight of humanity.

In other words, spiders could eat all of us and still be hungry.

Cute! ^_^ Ctenizidae likes tiaras, and Lycosidae 2 cosplays as an imperial Stormtrooper.

For anyone wondering about the face on that ant, the eyes are here:

The things that look like eyes are where the antennae connect to the head.

I don't know what's more alarming between the fact that they could and the fact that they just haven't.
