MKX's story mode is much easier than MK9's and IMO a lot easier than I2's.

Awesome! Though I guess I'm now a little disappointed that I wasn't actually getting better at Injustice 2...

This is good news for me as well, because I was avoiding the story mode in MKX for fear of getting really annoyed by the end boss. You had to fight Shao Khan twice in MK9, and I think you were stuck with Raiden or some other character I didn't like to use in the final battle. Thank goodness Shao Khan was finally written out of the series...

X to XL? Dang, and I thought jumping from 8 to 10 for Windows was a needless abrupt change in version numbers

Finally have a localish scene for tournaments! It's about an hour away from me so not horrible, but it's nice not having to drive 4 hours or so to Chicago. It's a nice little venue right above a beercadr. Around 15-20 or so people.

SNK is teasing a "new classic Neo-Geo title" will be playable at EVO this weekend. Anyone want to place any bets? I'm crossing my fingers for a Garou 2 revival.

Looks like they're doing an uncensored version of SamSho V Special. I was hoping for more than that.

But the only thing I know about that series is that you can carve milk out of fools like they were yogurt-filled Christmas turkeys.

ssvs is a great game that i love a lot. i don't think it's the absolute peak of the series' unique aesthetic (by which i mean the intense staredowns from knowing the other person can cleave half your lifebar in one hit) but it's fun and there's a lot of cool stuff going on

on the other hand assuming this is like the windjammers thing the emulation is probably going to be not so great

so uh

for a bunch of reasons i'm almost certainly not going to do a huge evo writeup this year. foremost, a lot of other people are doing more interesting and specific/detailed work. but also there's just so much going on, i finally quit xrd (i play a bit of blazblue, albeit with the trolliest character, and some other stuff that nobody plays), and i'm a lot busier on weekends so i've been watching less streams of fighting game tournaments and more of other competitive games. a lot of situations haven't changed much either, to be honest. particularly marvel, melee, and even guilty gear, where despite the update, mostly the same players and characters are strong, and the new characters haven't really been proven relevant to the game's overall development.

i will at least try to dig up some of those other resources i'm talking about for sure

The things I'm interested in this year are Tekken 7, all the games on show like DBZ fighters, marvel infinite, Gundam VS, and probably the SF grand finals. The rest is kind of meh, but they do have Yipes on umvc3 commentary for one last ride. Hopefully they have persia too since that commentary team is really good at being informative while still being entertaining.

Played in a small Tekken 7 tournament last night. I'd decided since around launch, well before knowing I'd ever play another human in person, that I'd play Lucky Chloe to troll people online. I never expected this to work so well in person, though. I got psyched out real bad in the first match and fell to losers bracket, but the second time around it went much better and I finished at least one match successfully. My final match up I got nervous again and pegged the stupid PS button and gave up a round. I couldn't get my groove back after that, but the guys from the KC SRK group playing there said they enjoyed watching my Chloe and invited me out to fight with them again sometime.

I kind of forgot how much I missed playing against people in the same room since the death of arcades.

Geese and Akuma in a Tekken game. What a world. I think that's enough to make me buy it, yup.

I'm gonna need Abigail to take up more of the screen. I want at least 3/4ths of the screen to be Abigail.

I dunno, I've got a soft spot for his throw, where he knocks his opponent away with a flick of his finger. I don't think it's going to change my mind much about Street Fighter V, though. There's a lot of competition in this genre now and SFV doesn't even come close to measuring up.

Street Fighter 5, may not be a great game, but that didn't stop me from rooting for Punk. Punk did amazingly well. Second place at EVO at 18 is amazing. That was certainly a set to watch. Tokido's speech or lack there of said it best.

"Fighting games are great."

He didn't look all that great in Final Fight, either, where he was a palette-swap of Andore Jr. Seems an odd choice to reintroduce a character who started out as a labour-saving measure.

Head swap of Andore. He was basically the Ken to Hugo's Ryu.

Yeah! At least he isn't just a Hugo-clone in terms of his moveset, I guess.

Now I like Smash Bros., and I've always thought one of the big problems with most Smash clones is they deviate too far from what makes the Smash Bros. formula good in the first place, but so far this one looks like it could spare to deviate just a smidge more.

What are you talking about, there's not a single Nintendo character in that. What more could they possibly do?
