Is the irony that she's listening to him rhapsodize about the Romantic period?

I think the Irony is that the image Falselogic posted claims to be a "comic" when it's actually just a page of text.

Wow, the current arc of Devils Candy veers wildly between being goofy and dark as hell.

...no pun intended.

Today's The Punchline is Machismo captures a key part of my admittedly idyllic childhood PERFECTLY.

Come summer all us kids on the air force base would all grab our super soakers and run around shooting eachother. Every time, there was always ONE KID who was always just as well armed as the rest of us, but when we pointed to shoot they would scream "MY MOM SAID I'M NOT ALLOWED TO GET MY CLOTHES WET!"

When I complained about the unfairness of the world to my own mom, she told me to just go right ahead and shoot them, because if they aren't allowed to get wet then what are they doing trying to join a super soaker war armed with a super soaker that their mom bought them?

It was an important moment for YOUNG BEAT.

Seems like a good time to re-read it from the start.

I really really like Table Titans but I really really wish they would stop doing Side Stories Featuring: Bad Art.

While researching cartoonist hats I bumped into a webcomic called Satan Ninja 198X (and it's highly NSFW).

It's basically Duke Nukem 3D as a long form webcomic. But instead of Duke, the hero is a generic white dude McLoserpants who can morph into a magical heavy metal satan ninja.

That premise sounds kind of cool, right? And the comic has surprisingly good art to back it up. But it takes loads of pages before the comic gets around to its central premise and white dude McLoserpants turns into that heavy metal satan ninja. In the mean time there's an endless onslaught of cheese, sex, cartoon boobs and pop culture references.
It's like if Duke didn't get around to shooting and blowing things up until halfway through the second episode.

With the long establishing arc and excellent art, I almost hoped the oversexed 80s wallpaper was a fake-out and the central premise wasn't going to be what it seemed. I kept waiting for it to drop the facade and break into a dimension of maturity, but it never happened. The closest thing we get is the sidekick Alex, who is the only three dimensional woman out of all the characters, and who is accidentally more interesting than the designated hero. Yet even she is reduced to her underwear at one point. I actually got angry when that page came up. I suspect she only lasted as long as she did because her shtick is "karate tomboy with huge glasses who everyone thinks is a lesbian" and the male gaze that permeates the comic like a strong musk has a hard time powering through those traits.

My takeaway from all this is I guess webcomic artists today are just better at art than their predecessors were 20 years ago, but they're still vulnerable to all the other chestnuts that plague the format.

So does anyone read Goodbye to Halos by Valerie Halla? It's a super cute comic w/ lovely coloring, vaguely reminds me of Cucumber Quest. Extremely wholesomely queer. Still seems to be early on in the story and things seem pretty mysterious. It's about this girl who's pushed through a portal by her father (for her protection?), finds herself in a queer slum in another world, and gets taken in by some sweet buds. She's also got weird giant magic powers but wants to be everyone's friend. One day the portal reactivates and a mysterious stranger comes through, looking for her. It's fun!

Also I haven't read Princess Princess yet and I know I need to, and also Tea Dragon Society by the same artist!

I wonder if this is canon, or just a silly thing like the Revenge of the Weasel Queen stories? I think it might be canon, since we do know the story has a "happy ending," sort of--we saw in the early chapters that Agatha eventually takes command of the Geisterdamen, puts Gil in one of their costumes, and gets some kind of time manipulation ability, so it stands to reason she successfully frees Mechanicsburg too.

Well it is captioned as a short story from the future

In context I'd say it's the former but I wouldn't be picky if you have access to the right dark magic.

(Standard cisclaimer: in this context "become a girl" generally means something like "realize you're a girl and take steps to realign your presentation and/or hormone profile in accordance with that realization as desired" but that's not nearly as pithy)

If you have access to dark magic, you might as well learn polymorph self, y'know?

Really? Abrams has always said that it is ending on its current daily strip format, so the plan has always been to continue it in some other format. Has the timeline changed?

I resent having to look up more about this, but here:

Quote:
I RETIRE NO MORE! Sluggy Freelance Continues!
After a year and a half of unknowns I'm calling it.

When I announced things were going to change about a year and a half ago, I honestly didn’t know what the future held. That’s why I used terms like ‘retiring’. I knew I couldn’t keep up with the schedule anymore. But if I didn’t, then I really didn’t see a way to keep making a living at it.

Well now I have a plan, it’s a good one. As I said in that Pledge-to-pledge video, Sluggy Freelance WILL CONTINUE! Just not in a way you’re used to.

It’s extra important to tell you this now. Because I’d suggested months ago I was trying to keep to a schedule where I’d reach a certain “closing” point in the story. Of course I can’t time anything right, you guys know this by now. So August 25th isn’t going to be a ‘good place for the story to end’ it’s going to be a frikkin’ Cliff Hanger of unimaginable proportions. But I wanted to let you all know, it’s OK! We don’t need a good place to end, because (with a little help from you guys) Sluggy is not ending.

More on that later (not TOO much later)! For now, keep your eyes on the headlines and news of this site every day. Things are a’happenin’.
