Default E3 2017 group watch

As always, everyone is invited to hang out in the TT discord channel during E3. (I copied the discord invite link from last year, but I think it still works.) Discord is an online chat service like IRC, although it's a bit more modern and more conveniently accessible. (You can also hang out there when it's not E3!)

Traditionally Talking Time gathers together to watch the E3 press conference livestreams as a group. We get hyped together over each cool trailer and make lighthearted fun of the banal moments, MST3k style. (well, the non-banal moments aren't exactly safe either - sometimes we mock because we love.)

Here is a super useful giant schedule for keeping days and times straight (credit to NeoGAF, click image for bigger version). Note that this year the first conference is Saturday June 10th, and there are two on Sunday (!). Every conference here should be streamable on both twitch and youtube when the time comes.

Why are most conferences happening before E3 has even opened? Some of them days before! Is that normal?

Yes. Conferences, and then E3 is the actual floor show.

There's been a bit of an arms race in terms of scheduling those conferences earlier, though. To my recollection there's never been a major conference on Saturday before, has there?

I don't think so, although EA and Bethesda were on Sunday last year.

EA's move though could be understood because their "E3" press conference was really at their own event venue instead of being at E3. Bethesda was a giving their 2nd ever conference last year, so maybe they felt they were too small to hold one during the week. Microsoft moving to Sunday is weird, I have no explanation other than seeing it as an arms race.

MS is needing some big announcements to regain some ground, so I'm not surprised they're trying to get a bigger leap on Sony and Nintendo here.

I'll be kneedeep in refunding during Nintendo and UBI Soft's shows, but I'll think about the others.

EA on Saturday is ridiculous. At this pace the conferences at E3 2020 will start a full week before the main event.

That said... I wonder just what EA has that it thinks it merits such a leading time. So either EA is afraid MS has something that will drown everything else that news cycle or somebody at marketing truly thinks Star Wars Battlefront II has enough weight to keep the enthusiast press talking about it on a Saturday night.

E3 is an entirely arbitrary time to announce things that everyone just does, I'm not going to be too up in arms about conferences shifting back and forth, the conference itself lurched back and forth from May to July to its current "vaguely mid-Junie-ish". Just means I sit through fewer painful press conferences on any individual day.

Here, I'll save everybody some time.

"Here's the new Bethesda open world game that is super huge! Look at the specific mechanic you can do all over the place! We're going to have this sweet pre-order edition loaded with feelies. And here's a mobile app that cashes in on the game's premise! Buy it day one and don't mind the bugs! Modders will totally clean up our shit, amirite??"

At least until Bethesda releases a patch that disables all mods and then puts a permanent marker on any save file you use where you try to load even just a minor aesthetic mod, nevermind the hassle of reactivating more complex ones, souring you on the whole experience.

Saturdays are slow for sports over the summer, maybe they figure they can get some big coverage on ESPN or something.

It could also be that there's increased turnaround time in setting up the venue, if they're (presumably) sharing it with other companies.

Discord users: I've made a specific channel, #e3, on the Discord server, rather than have the conversation take place in #general.

There is a new conference on late Sunday/early Monday morning: Devolver Digital. Their chosen time means it is probably going to start right after (or even during) Bethesda's conference.

Since I don't have a full-time job to get in the way right now I may actually join the chat for a few of these this year... but it looks like I don't really care much about anything 'til the last three, so I guess I'll see you all Monday.

Lol Microsoft, I'm not going to take time out of my weekend to watch your conference. I'll catch the cliffs notes in a few hours.

Does Square have anything planned, or will it all be part of third party sections for the Big Three? I desperately want to know if FF15 and other things will get a PC and/or switch port before I break down and get a PS4 possibly this holiday.

It is not confirmed for PC. It is very likely that it will be at some point though. Depends how long a person wants to wait.

The last I remember was that they would "like" to bring it to PC but hadn't even started working on a port, but I think that was last summer.

Of course, I also want them to port world of FF, FF12 HD, and basically every PSP/Vita exclusive to the switch.
