Precious few are the artists who understand how Havok's costume is supposed to work.

...is the guy whose body is made of "organic" steel wearing iron armor? On only one arm?

I think a side-effect of Illyanas sword is that it causes armour to appear on whatever arm is holding it.

I have a lot of time for Madeline Pryor, exasperated super-villainess single mom. That works for me.

Uh. Now I wonder if keyblades work similarly with zippers in Kingdom Hearts.

New Mutants reread note: at one point at least it depended on the wielder's level of attunement to the sword; Illyana has full plate at one point.

...now I'm curious to see if anyone tries to grab it with their feet. Or their teeth.

Or, if Kurt, their tail.

That's a cool touch. Magik's whole deal was pretty cool, in hindsight.

It is such a better angle for her than what Claremont wound up doing.

I'm not sure what was mandated and what were choices Claremont/Simonson made, but Madelyne's a pretty awesome, sympathetic villain in Inferno. (Her outfit is still very dumb) A righteous bit of meta-commentary on editorial mandates.

She has come back from the dead a couple of times and I feel it's honestly a lot more confusing than it needs to be each time. Currently, Maddie from the Inferno mini-series (took place in some kind of Secret Wars related pocket dimension) is out and about, most recently fighting the All-New X-Men. She's fun, obviously... I kinda hope 616's Maddie ghost, last seen as a side character in X-Man (never read) pops back up at some point.

You know, when Jim Shooter was there to keep his boot on the neck of Chris Claremont's obsessions, Claremont did some truly great stuff. The Brood, Starjammers, Days of Future Past.

What I am getting at is hand the company to Colin Spacetwinks and give him the power of life and death over the bullpen.

Wasn't Shooter also responsible for the Phoenix retcon and bringing Jean Grey back to life?

From what I've read, he was responsible in that he would not allow them to bring back Jean Grey without finding some way to absolve the character of having been Dark Phoenix. Apparently Claremont sneaked her destruction of a populated world in under Shooter's nose, and Shooter's never been the forgiving type.

Hmm... the story I heard was somewhat different than that, with the destruction of the populated world being because the book was drawn Marvel method and Byrne drew the planet exploding, so they had to work that into the plot. And Shooter wanted to bring Grey back afterwards because she was such an important and popular character. Everything I've heard from and about Claremont suggests that he hated bringing Jean back.

I could be wrong about some of those details though.

Synthesis: Byrne had Phoenix kill that planet; Shooter made them kill her b/c of that; Bob Layton came up with the idea of X-Factor (with Dazzler instead of Jean) then Byrne thought to resurrect Jean in titles he was writing in preparation. Ann Nocenti got Claremont drunk to break the news (he wasn't happy)

Also, Pryor and Summers were supposed to have a happily ever after that got trashed because the rest of Marvel couldn't let Scott/Jean go.

Wasn't it Kurt Busiek who came up with the specific retcon, with the real Jean being sealed in a cocoon all those years?

I think so. He took it to one Roger Stern (have already forgotten who that is) at a con, and he relayed it to Byrne, who remembered it when he heard about X-Factor. Source: marvel comics: the untold story; some podcast i recently listened to where i think busiek said that. Wait, heck, here's a hastily discovered article.

Gang: we're cracking this case, one half-remembered anecdote at a time... keep it up.

Best Avengers writer ever / up there with best Spidey writers (he wrote "The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man" and created Hobgoblin) is all.

Another mystery solved: I only pay attention to x-crap. The only Spider-Run I've read is some (most?) but not all of Bendis's Ultimate Spider-Man. (well before Miles Morales)

Go read "Siege of the Mansion" (I think the name's been retconned to "Under Siege" for lord alone knows what reason in the TPB), like, now.
