I will grudgingly accept more Fishman in my life if it gets me more Little Claire with elbow patches.

This has better be building up to a band performance.

It was wonderfully nostalgic to get an Amy and Shelley story again.

I was wondering there was going to be a Trump reference.

From the looks of things, Giant Days will perhaps not end well for Esther at all.

(Note: I have not been reading Giant Days)

That's definitely what Eustace thinks, but my money is on Natalie Durand.

What each of these characters has in common is that they're out of the story. I don't think it's Dark Esther in there.

We're meant to think it is, but I could see it turning out to be Sarah Grote.

Sarah had an appearance in Giant Days recently (well, latest collected release), so I don't think it's her either.

Natalie sounds like a good bet.

It looks like the collected Tackleverse might be coming to an end soon (with the possible exception of Giant Days):

Today I have a piece of news that is exciting, maybe sad, probably predictable, and overdue. Hard Yards will be the last story set in the little Tackleford universe weíve been visiting nearly every day since 1998. While I still love the characters, I feel like Iíve done almost all I can with them, and for the last two years Iíve been trying to find ways to create a satisfying end to things, or a possible way to continue that felt somehow the same, but new. In the end Iíve had to settle on ending things.

Things might have been different if Giant Days hadnít proved so successful Ė I figured that after its 6-issue run was over by autumn 2015, Iíd start work in earnest on a new thing. Issue 28 is out on Wednesday, and no one has told me to stop yet. The new thing remains elusive, but some ideas are beginning to come together at last.

I donít know exactly when the last strip will be, just that it will be before the end of 2017, so Iíll let you know when we get into the final straight. In the meantime, as you were.

One thing: while webcomics are still viable, I donít want to pack up and go home. If possible, my new series will start the week after Scary Go Round/Bobbins/Bad Machinery/&c. finishes. The daily conversation with an audience is incredibly energising, creatively, and every day I get to sit and draw for you is full of discovery and purpose. It is a privilege.
I don't think I'm upset? Whatever John Allison does, I will read it. I have been reading this work since the very beginning and I feel like he just gets better with every iteration, so whatever comes next should be great. Part of me is hoping for a Bad Machinery-style refresh with new characters in the same setting, but honestly he should probably just do something totally new at this point. 19 years is a long time to draw the same characters!

I'm a bit nostaligic and sad about the news.

I'm also all like, "we've heard this song and dance from Alison before."

It'll be good to see him do something new, and we still have Giant Days.

I don't know that Shelley is scheming a Parent Trap type scenario now - certainly didn't seem like that was in play when we flashed forward to her being heavily pregnant and having kicked Tim out

I do know that secret friendship with a child is so amazingly Shelley it hurts

Thanks to John Allison being a lovely man, here's a spoiler for what is presumably tomorrow's comic.

While I do think Tim has the most uncanny luck, there is the niggling detail someone else blew up the house...

Could be that Allison is poking fun at his old habit of setting up "lovable" bumblers with gamine sex nymphs who solve their problems.

e: And I mean old, as every relationship since Ryan and Amy first linked up has deflated the manic pixie dreamgirl trope pretty hard.
