Finally some new information and a story trailer. Returning characters include Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye and Rocket Raccoon from Marvel, and Chris Redfield, Strider Hiryu and Chun-Li for Capcom. Ultron and Sigma are confirmed as well, but Sigma will be one of six DLC characters included with a Deluxe Edition or a 2017 Character Pass. Game's out on September 19th. More info here.

Game looks pretty rough still, although screens popping up elsewhere look improved. Glad to see Strider so early. Bummed to see Chris. I want Leon dammit

If I understand this correctly, Ultron-Sigma is the last boss!🎉🎆🎈

If I understood it incorrectly, I don't want to know.

X and Sigma, nice.

Ultron Sigma is an amazing idea.

I'm disappointed to see no confirmation of Spider-Man or proof that the X-Men and Dr. Doom aren't getting the pink slip this time, but also excited to see Sigma added to the roster and both Strider and Rocket returning.

Maybe if there are no X-Men, Sigma can take Wolverine's moveset. :B

4/15 known new characters, with one and most likely another immediately delegated to post-launch announced DLC, the Marvel side being entirely MCU representees (or planned thereof, with Captain Marvel)...

Interest waning, this feels rushed. Hopes of America Chavez / Sam Wilson / Moon Girl / Medusa / any of the Spider-Women fading, the only likely character outside of the MCU push + assets-reuse are Ms. Marvel and the slimmest of chances Squirrel Girl (New Warriors next year). It'll be a surprise if they even add much more than the rest of the MCU Avengers and Defenders.

...or a Prowler, I guess, for the other side.

I love that it's Ultron with a Sigma face on his tummy like he's a Ghouls 'n Ghosts villain.

I think my favorite part of that trailer wasn't Ultron-Sigma itself, so much as it was Chris trying to stop it with his handgun.

That's... that's not going to work super well against either of those guys at the best of times, Chris. You aren't pulling your weight here, Chris!

My favorite bit was Rocket expressing a worrying amount of interest in X's Buster.

Now all I want for Christmas is for Rocket to upgrade X's firepower. Or a Leaf Shield that consists of four little Baby Groots orbiting X.

I'm more taken aback by Rockets uncharacteristic lack of exuberance in the presence of a man with a giant laser-gun for an arm.

Gameplay video leak: https://vid.me/EV6z

Looks better in motion! Strider, Hawkeye and Thor have new supers, and Chun has her air super again from MvC1 and TvC (which I love for some inexplicable reason). A lot of Ultron in there too.

I'm happy that my favorite comic villain is playable, and now I just need confirmation that my favorite comic hero is back.

Imagine if Dr. Wily had created Ultron.

He'd also be called Ultron Man and his middle and ring fingers would be permanently fused together.

Unless he was the last boss, in which case he would be weak to the Hawkeye Putty Arrow.

Well, traditionally the last boss is susceptible to weapons that are hard to aim and control, or that had limited used under very specific circumstances and were largely ignored by the game otherwise.

So my vulnerability guess would be Editorial Intent.

Fuck lost my post...

Anyway, official footage came out today.

Press embargoes were also removed today, so every major outlet is reporting on it. Kotaku has arguably the most in-depth written piece on the game I've seen. Gamespot meanwhile made a video that covers the biggest changes:

While there is a big push for accessibility, there's some potential batshit crazy fighting to be had. The Space Stone in particular looks insane.

The combination of the aesthetic and animation style give off this stiff plastic model feel that I feel like Capcom has mostly avoided in their other more fluid looking 3D fighting games.

(It's okay for other people to like it, of course.)

It looks pretty much the same in motion as MvC3 though? Obviously a little rough, but they've got 6 more months.

Yeah, I just think the high polygon count makes it look a lot more stiff and plasticky. The same basic aesthetic but with more triangles paradoxically ends up looking worse, because it loses the level of abstraction that made MvC3 feel somewhat fluid and animated.

I bet it gets better though, yeah.

I didn't like the way MvC3 looked and moved. What works on a 2D character does not necessarily look good on a 3D one, and vice versa.

Out of curiosity, do you think this is an improvement? (Just asking. Not meant to imply you are wrong.)

I didn't love MvC3, but this seems like it takes the worst aspects of that and amplifies them.

I wouldn't say it looks worse, but it doesn't look a whole lot better. I will say the shading and textures are improved. I get they were going for a comic book ink and color style in MvC3, but I thought it was garish.

Looking at it some more, Mega Man, Sigma, and Ultron look pretty great in these kind of plasticky models. But I see a human being and I have a kind of uncanny valley experience.

. . . I also think SFIV looks better than SFV. I think that there's something about high-poly fighting game character models that Capcom hasn't quite figured out yet. I don't know enough about design and animation to say what it is. But more triangles isn't making it better, for me at least. (I'm the most casual of the casuals though, so they don't need it to look good for me, really...)

Speaking of stuff looking bad, I'm disappointed that they didn't take the opportunity to make Thor look more handsome.
