I am so looking forward to the Spider-man musical. And I will be dragging my girlfriend to see it with me no matter how bad the reviews it gets.

Seriously, it combines two things I love - Spider-man and musical theater. How could it not be great?

Okay, I imagine the staging will be amazing, but the songs and story could suck. But I'm being an optimist.

I'm just not feeling the tone the musical seems like it will have. Granted, that's just one song. I just really prefer Spidey as a humorous, light-hearted hero, low on the angst and seriousness.

Did anybody else watch the Thor trailer that leaked a few days ago? It's really going to be an epic movie. The end with Ultron was a huge holy shit moment.

That's not Ultron. It's The Destroyer.

Yeah I remembered it from Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Don't think I had heard of it before then but it goes pretty far back.

I'd say the closest she's gotten were the acid scenes in Across the Universe, and even then it was surrounded by DRAMADRAMADRAMA

I assumed they're saving Ultron for if that Ant Man film ever gets made, anyway.

I actually wouldn't mind a movie on the current Ant Man, but doubt that would happen.

I hope they don't try tying Runaways into everything else. As it is, the stories were at their worst when they tied into the larger MU.

Except for that issue where Molly goes to tour the X-Mansion. Because anytime she annoys Logan it's magical.

He made a huge lightning storm during the attack on Otto Von Doom's castle.

I did like that his speech was in alliterative verse. It made more sense than just peppering his dialogue with Shakespeare-isms.

He was an old man dragging around an ark-of-the-covenant-ish macguffin that people are fighting over. He's scared of touching the hammer inside for fear of losing himself and never wanting to turn back.

Guys is that Thor trailer serious?

This is the dialogue I seem to remember from it:

Odin: "You are a foolish, arrogant fool!"

Thor: "And you are a mean, gross old man!"

Something like that. This is Shakespeare? Come on Kenneth Branagh. You made Daniel Day-Lewis' performance as Bill the Butch in Gangs of New York look like peanuts compared to your complete mind-bending performance as Doctor Loveless in Wild, Wild West. Seriously, guys that was Branagh. It's like he became a totally different person. He knows from drama. This does not meet my standards.

You guys are fools if you think the Spider Man musical is going to be a trainwreck. The Lion King is one of the most successful plays ever, and I haven't seen anything that hasn't been incredible from Julie Taymor. It's probably going to be really weird and not what you personally want out of Spider man, but still amazing theater.

Honestly, I think the Bono music is hurting its case as much as the fact that its a musical for me.

Once again:

That's one of the villains. I don't care if she did do a good job with Lion King (which had the benefit of (a) not having U2's presumably emotastic score and (b) had a plot laid out for her ahead of time), but... that's just awful design any way you look at it.

Oh, and Across the Universe was a piece of shit, so Traymor's on a one-project losing streak for me at the moment.

Also, the musical's way over budget and months if not years behind schedule. It's a trainwreck and a financial sinkhole before it even opens (especially as it's missed the big opening window running from Thanksgiving to the holidays when tourist traffic is at its peak.)

The costumes are really bizarre, but uh, it's Julie Taymor. Maybe her stuff isn't for you, but I love it. Plus, here's the Oscorp lab set:

Looks awesome to me.

I don't care how successful it is, I saw Lion King and it was a trainwreck. It struck me as the hight of trying to make something that's silly seem cultured by being pretentious about it. If memory serves (I saw it quite a few years ago) they even added in a subplot where Scar tries to rape Simba's mom.

That said, it was entertaining at least. I'm sure Spider-Man will be too, but that doesn't preclude it from being a trainwreck. Plus you'll totally have to fight mobs of middle-aged yuppies for tickets.

bwhaaaaaa so awesome. It's like the forgotten cover of a Kraftwerk album. This whole enterprise might come off a ludicrous but what's wrong with ludicrous? It can be really fun.

Yeah, I've always thought of Taymor as more of a good designer than a good director. Also, every snippet of music from the show that I've heard sounds awful.

Additionally, that video of the Green Goblin's wife gave me horrible actor flashbacks. It could only have been worse if she'd started singing excerpts from Rent or Thoroughly Modern Millie. And we learned not a god damn thing about the play.

Oh, that's right. "Donal", I think. I was not as big a Thor nut back then, but I liked that bit.

Right on the Thor dialogue, but the Hopkins bit was fine. His annoyance upon discovering he's been banished to Earth was cool, though.

Yeah, okay, the dialog in the Thor trailer had some... missteps... but I think the design is fucking aces. The Destroyer looks great and they managed to make Loki's giant horn helmet look cool. I love that they're using the Kirby Asgard rather than the generic fantasy look it's taken on lately.

I really like Agent Coulson too.
