Nah, they're all pretty much interchangeable.

Begins at least had a secret Ninja cult with a microwave bomb that filled the sewers with Fear Gas. So that was obliging of them.

What about IM2? I think that's by and away the most "fun" movie in the MCU before Guardians. Every other scene has some cute gag or reference. None of it fits together, but it's fun.

I almost mentioned IM2 earlier. Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke are pretty much walking caricatures.

Better than Hela's Kirby-ass helmet and Kirby-ass cheekbones?

Just imagine The Immigrant Song playing over the whole thing. Because that's exactly what the sound is. It's perfect.

I really enjoy the Thor pictures.
I also rather enjoy the Thor movies*, with the important caveat that Dr. Jane Foster is a hugely lost opportunity. It's an underwritten role, and Portman is an excellent actress who can't elevate the material much. (Apparently her frustration with how her character was treated in The Dark World is part of the reason why she's walked away from the role.)

Ragnarok is going to be more fun without her, and that kinda sucks for the character. :/

IM2 is a fucking mess and is actually kinda dark for Tony from a personal standpoint. Props if you really like it (I love Natasha's big spy action sequence), but I don't understand the idea of it being more light-hearted than any of the other MCU movies

*that being said, The Dark World is #3 from the bottom on my personal MCU Power Ranking, beating out only IM2 and The Incredible Hulk

Guys, this is also the movie where Tony's dying of radiation poisoning and not telling anyone about it, and hits personal rock bottom, including having to fight Rhodey because Tony's drunk off his ass at a party in the suit and endangering the partygoers.

Yeah, the movie has a funny split personality that way. Tony's personal story is a desperate fight for survival, but then everyone around him is this close to starring in a Looney Tune. Like, Sam Rockwell is almost literally Elmer Fudd.

The goofy-ass shit is there to offset the blackest pit of hell Tony is going through yeah, and is there to highlight that none of that is a threat at all to a 'normal' Tony. He's just so low from a personal standpoint that even getting out of bed is hard, let alone clowning a bunch of morons.

The movie also does a poor job of communicating that.

Tony is absolutely in a dark place in IM2 but I don't think that precludes it from having a lot of fun scenes. YMMV, but when I think back to IM2, it's the silly bits that shine brighter in my memory. Even the scene with drunken Tony fighting Rhodey is scored to "Robot Rock", which is pretty cool.

Also: I remember going nuts over the suitcase suit, and thinking "wow, I never expected to see something so positively comic-book-y on screen!" Now it looks positively quaint. I love the MCU.

It is also the movie where they cut Tony being snarky to Pepper in the opening because it tested badly with female viewers. Which... I'm still not sure what the hell was going on there.

(Ah, for the good old days before Rogue One where one joke missing from the movie was odd, as opposed to the entire damn trailer not winding up in the movie.)

Notice how when Thor and Hulk enter the arena they're armed, but when they clash it's bare fists.

Can't hug it out if you have weapons in your hands. Or, at least, it's harder.

It turns out some people CAN hug their children with nuclear arms.

No worries, it was great!

In Infinity War they should bring back Red Skull, Malekith, Ultron, Ronan, Yellow Jacket, Kaecilius, and Justin Hammer. The first six are trapped in interdimensional wormholes or whatever, and Hammer is just sitting in a prison cell drinking champagne.

The upside to Thor's haircut is that he looks like a narrower Upupdowndown now.
