Funny, I would absolutely buy the BS resolution of the Infinity Gauntlet conflict if it was Vision doing it, even if his personal arc (mastering the Mind Gem) is identical to Warlock mastering the Soul Gem.

Yeah, I noticed that Vision's movie origin ended up folding in some of Warlock's shtick (an artificial man who rebels against his evil creator, bearing an Infinity Gem/Stone on his brow, destined to confront Thanos).

I like Vision in the movies and I know nothing about him outside of that one Avengers beat-em-up from the 90s. I'm pretty sure I only like him because Paul Bettany is great and his voice is great. But forehead laser is a pretty solid power and so is disappearing through matter. You know it really feels like Vision could kick everyone's ass if he wanted to (except for Scarlet Witch I guess).

Vision is the one Avengers character where he's ridiculously superior to his JLA version (Red Tornado). His Ultimate version was pretty much a non entity, which is why he hews closer to his comic roots than a lot of the others.

I didn't make the Warlock connection before, but he would work well as a stand-in.

i hate Vision almost as much as I do Red Tornado, but I happily concede that Paul Bettany does him justice.

Vision, a sexless weirdo who starts wearing cardigans in an attempt to appear normal and attract his coworker, is so calculated to appeal to the viewer base that I cannot accept him

I liked Vision better when they called him Data and I liked Data better when they called him Spock.

I don't understand why people don't think "robot who cries" is a good superhero.

Yeah, well, Vision didn't do so well against Thanos in the comics.

He has one major advantage over Adam Warlock: we don't need to spend another third of a movie introducing him

I used to very actively read Marvel comics, and I also saw Guardians of the Galaxy. But after I laughed at this very funny post, I still had to Google Drax the Destroyer to remember who that character is.

My Favorite (or at least the only thing I ever recall reading with the character) Drax moment was when he finally succeeded in killing Thanos, and stood around happy as a clam, and it was like, the one time killing Thanos would have been a major inconvenience, and everyone was all "Could you have waited for, like, two minutes?"

I don't know anything about OG COMICS vision, but the guy in the movie basically seems lke J'onn J'onzz from the Justice League Cartoon.
  • Phases through whatever he wants
  • SKRONG AS FUK
  • Way calm & rational until some idiot crosses the line.
  • Doing his best to act human because he's...
  • ...Acutely aware of detachment from rest of the planet and therefore...
  • ...Spends all his time at the silly outfits Bodybuilders Club because where else could he go?

You all know I fuckin LOVE me my old DC cartoons, So I kinda dig this guy. Maybe we'll get an arc where he just goes "What the fuck am I even doing here" and just vanishes for awhile to find himself by either A: going into space and exploring the cosmos forever or B: turning into a human (Or close equivalent) and backpacking across Eruope or something.

Comic Vision was terribly sad that he was a robot and thus had no emotions. And he also got Scarlet Witch preggers for reasons best described as "confusing", and also an evil wizard stole those babies and made them into his arms, so he was also sad and cried a lot about that. Also his dad is an evil, awesome robot.

Later he made a creepy, emotionless robot family in order to make himself appear to be more human and it backfired spectacularly because they were so creepy.

In conflation; Vision is defined by his failures.

I need to track down the original ad for West Coast Avengers that tried to make sense of all that.

(On the other hand, since Filion's schedule is free, we can get a... significantly portlier... version of Wonder Man on screen now and re-enact the entire mess!)

Correct.

And yet he's still so much better than Red Tornado.

I'm only familiar with Red Tornado from Young Justice, but he was pretty cool on that show. Robot babysitter.

I've read no comics featuring Vision besides the current Tom King run, but it is 100% incredible

Believe me, that's 99% due to Tom King. There's a reason DC just handed him the keys to Batman.

My headcanon is that he only got the job because no one wanted to waste a good superhero just because the sidekicks were whining.

The only actual Red Tornado story I liked was the Christmas episode of Brave and the Bold where he tried to fill himself with Christmas spirit and took everything way too literally.

Right, I forgot that an Evil Spacegod upgraded Red Tornado once so that he was just a tornado in a crunchy robot shell.

And still he was so damn sad about everything.

That whole Elementals storyline was a goddamn mess (and was the final blow in tanking Firestorm as a solo character). I'd forgotten it stuck to Tornado long enough to make it into JLA / Avengers.

That's almost how I remember the first issue of the comic, where Red Tornado just happened to be in storage in the same JLA basement where Robin, Superboy, and Impulse were camping out, making him the closest thing to an adult available.
