I probably shouldn't foist this onto the board, but I'm in a giving mood. I started trying to draw realistically about two days ago. This is the first attempt I've made and it's pretty cheap. I mean, I didn't even bother to erase the graph lines.

Um. Graph lines or no, for starting on the style two days ago I'd have to say that's pretty fantastic.

I don't actually think it's a bad job. I'm quite pleased with the outcome. The whole "cheapness" comment was just the negative effect of two contiguous semesters of (abstract) figure drawing.

It's hard to break the indoctrination that says using gridlines to slavishly copy a photograph is the most heinous form of anti-skill the world will ever know.

Anti-skill? Only if you're a masochist. Or if you have some kind of cybernetic eye and/or brain that allows you to nail perfect proportions without a grid reference.

Escher used 'em. 'Nuff said.

What would a video game oriented forum be without bad fan art?

Complete with silhouette of metal gear rex avec giant tuning fork and improper sizing of limbs.

I got a new real life brush pen at San Diego during Comic Con and I was a-testing it out.

Don't post any spoilers my roomate says. I havn't read the book yet and she's afraid that you'll see this picture and just have to say something you shouldn't.

I don't even know what a horcrux is, (serious business in the Potterverse, no doubt) but that still made me laugh.

Philliam never ceases to scare me.

And I'm not actually posting anything in this thread at the moment, just pointing out that my avatar is one I drew myself.

A picture I drew that's inspired by Hunter in the Darkness. Bad picture saved somewhat by neat light effects, in a nutshell.

Edit: Well, it should be regular size now.

I'm currently going through Castlevania for the Gamespite Fun Club, and, while I was bumped off a platform for the umpteenth time, I was inspired to draw this:

I could post things I've drawn. but I'd have to like, scan them, and shit. So just know I did my avatar myself, all it took was a pic of me and MS Paint.

MS Paint: Good for Nothing But 8-Bits, Since the Late 80s.

Every so often I take a crack at drawing, making some incremental improvements then abandoning it. In my last iteration I've settled into working exclusively on the computer. This has its own advantages, but compared to pencils it feels very hard to produce a halfway decent result without great effort.

The first picture is an unfinished drawing of an anime character, with proportions eyeballed to a reference image. I'm pleased with my ability to finally get something semi-respectable on a computer. It doesn't however look nearly as good as the second image which I actually drew first, as the second image was traced and not eyeballed (this made it ridiculously easy, but an astonishingly good confidence builder).

Here's another one of my recent drawings. In comparison to my recent works, I'd say it ranks above "Freakishly deformed man in what is supposedly a cave" but below "Simon Belmont about to plummet to his doom".

Here's some of mine:

And this one will explain the next one slightly:

Vote Batman for President 08! Incredible Hulk, running mate.

I'm going to print these up as flyers, and hand them out on Halloween, for I shall go as Presidential Candidate Batman.

Makes me wonder what would happen if someone ever did run as president dressed up and claiming to be Batman. 50% of the population doesn't vote anyway, and I can imagine many of them voting for Batman as a joke...

That's awesome. Reminds me of this great column on how the superheroes would vote. Batman is definitely the best.

on the game-related art front, I recently drew this, but be warned: once you see it, you can never unsee it.

I would never have expected this much (hilariously good) talent on a video game board of all places. You people rock.

This is the most recent colored pic I've finished--it's mainly just been sketches and not-quite-complete roughs since I hit a major case of artist's block. That's going away soon, though, thanks to a really nice assignment a friend handed me, which I'll post here as soon as it's done.

I felt like I'd been slacking off and lazy with my drawing lately. So I drew some silly faces.

He's Captain Dirk Diggles, one of the main characters of a webcomic I'm starting up in the near future. Pretty much all the characters you see in these sketches I'm sharin' are characters in it.
