I find it insulting when people disdainfully file me or others trying to talk about a thing that's obviously not been fully addressed in any reasonable capacity under "the masses" and imply that we're dumb to even have done so, and I'm not sorry to have responded in kind.

Personally, I'm inclined to give the GDQ staff all the benefit of the doubt in the world in these matters, because... well, gamers.

All of this happening to one of the few black speedrunners? What a surprise!
Big Jon has commentated multiple runs this GDQ and will be doing a run in the event*

MMX race was a highlight for me, as always. (Big Jon did a great job on the commentary.)

For all the huff around Big Jon, looking at his Twitter, he is at AGDQ and having a good time.

I think my favorite run so far may have been Kirby Tilt n Tumble, just for the sake of watching the runner rotating a Gamecube and using his foot on a DDR pad for the jump button.

I'm not sure where you're reading this tone from. You don't have all the information, so don't act as if you are speaking from a place with all information, either. Garrison asked for trust, he didn't call you an idiot for not knowing what he knows.

I should note Mike Uyama came out of hiding after three years to do commentary on the Sunset Riders run. I did an honest-to-god double take when I heard his voice.

It takes a really uncharitable reading to turn that into a personal attack.

Yes, and he's addressing the fact that the masses don't have all the information and there may be very good reasons to not be completely transparent about the situation. He's not making an attack on you specifically nor calling you an idiot. He's making a statement about people in general.

Just spit-balling here, but maybe we could not start a shitty argument with a cool dude going through a rough time tentatively returning to the forum after a long absence? Not to mention one who probably knows a lot more about this particular matter than anyone else in this thread?

Welcome back, Garrison.

So, how about those games being played fast, eh? Sonic block's not really my jam, so I'm working through the VOD of the FF run ATM, then have Awful Games Done Quick queued up next.

Up next is the Mystery Game tournament. Anyone know what this is about? The players are playing a game they've never played before or something?

Oh man, the announcer just (in the VOD) mentioned a donation incentive to have the runners sing during Nightmare on Elm Street, and feasel (running both FF and Nightmare) is like "Um... what?". Awful games hype status: high.

I've really been looking forward to it, whatever it is. Hopefully I'm not disappointed.

The basic setup is a bunch of players go head to head on games they've never played before and whoever does the best moves on. The goals are usually short and they tend to be pretty intense. These tournaments have been online for years, but this is the second in person one and the first for a gdq marathon.

Oh they took the concept from UFGT and Combobreaker. It's a fun format.

Christ yes. I need to watch it again later, because Xelna completely dominated start to finish, and got absolutely amazing RNG on top of that. In the end, his time beat the PB of everyone else in the world except his own, by 12 seconds.

But just focusing on him meant missing a lot of exciting back and forth between second and third place, who stayed almost in perfect sync the whole way through, which always makes for a fun race.

Plus, Andy managed to not kick anybody's console this time.

Contra III and DOOM are both delightfully glitchy runs. "What's in this pit? It's the next stage!"
