Talking Five, six, seven, eight! The best Musical Number Nomination Thread!

That song that you hum in the shower. That dance number that gets your toes tapping. There are whole genres of performance that involve music and acting and there's always a piece of music that stands out. But what are they? What are the Top Fifty Musical Numbers of Stage and Screen?

That's up to you.

How to vote:
Send me an ordered list of your top 25 musical numbers. I'll be using The New Points System, so your #1 will be 35 points, #2 will be 34 points, etc. all the way to your #25 which will be 11 points.

What can I vote for?
Any musical number that appears in a stage production or feature film.

Okay, but what qualifies as a musical number?
Any scene dictated by song in which the performers participate through song or dance. It doesn't have to be an original song, but it helps.

What's the Deadline?
All entries have to be submitted by Midnight, December 30, EST.

If there's any other questions, please ask.

Can I include TV musical numbers?

Also, you forgot to mention that any list without an Across The Universe or Moulin Rouge reference are automatically invalid.

She already ixnayed TV stuff in the previous two threads guys.

Which is good because my list would be 75% MST3K by volume otherwise.

Just for that, I'm nominating Shipoopi from The Music Man as a vote for Family guy in spirit*.

I gave myself a challenge. I limited myself to one number per musical, because then a quarter would be from Les Mis alone and there'd be a good handful from Phantom as well

I don't plan on voting but I feel like there's a musical I should mention because I fear* that others won't remember it.

*probably irrational

For the sun will rise
And the moon will set,
And you'll learn how to settle
For what you get
It will all go on,
If we're here or not,
So who cares, so what?

I'm sadly uncultured here, so I'm brainstorming which musicals I've seen.

Everything Disney (Live action, animated, stop-motion)
Sound of Music
Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp ver)
Little Shop of Horrors
South Park: The Movie
VHS bootleg of RHPS

Also trying to remember musical scenes in non-musicals. I guess the volleyball scene in Top Gun doesn't count but the one where Tom Cruise sings does. And maybe that scene where Ferris "sings" Danke Schoen. I guess soundtrack-heavy movies like Footloose and Dirty Dancing count for their dancing scenes.

They may cut your dick in half
And feed it to a pig
And though it hurts you'll laugh
And dance a dickless jig

Hey Buge, do you have a preference for how we format these? Right now, because it helps with sorting and deciding, I have things like

Quote:
Movie/Musical Name: Song Name
...but if it would be easier for you to have it like "Song (Movie)" or something instead, I could switch them around for my final list.

I also worry there's probably a lot where I don't necessarily know the "official" title of the song, so uh... best luck sorting all these out.

it seems i know a lot more disney songs than i do musical numbers. I know I've seen a lot of musicals, but there's only a handful of songs i know and most of them are from something out of context. Most of them are snippets that my dad or grandmother would repeat when relevant...

I had formatted as
"Song Name" - Movie but will rearrange if it makes it easier.

Is this format acceptable, Y/Y?

1. That one with the bit that goes "doo doo, do-do-doot". No no, not that one, the other one, with the... piano?

Either way is good.

Also, yes, musical scenes that appear in non-musical productions are permitted, as long as the characters in the scene are participating in the musicality. "Magic Dance" from Labyrinth is fine. "Hearts on Fire" from Rocky IV isn't. The Bohemian Rhapsody scene from Wayne's World is fine. The boom box scene from Say Anything isn't.

Welp. I though this list would be tricky for me because I'm not, like, a super-fan of musicals or anything, but I started looking things up to jog my memory and after an hour or so my draft list is up to 50 entries.

Sent mine in. This one took the longest because I had to go on Youtube and listen to all of them before deciding.
