Synth is not over, baby !!

Synth never dies !

Why did nobody alert me to the greatness of Perturbator? Whoever is responsible for this is responsible for some the sickest, darkest synth melodies of our generation. Yes, there are Perturbator contributions to the Hotline Miami soundtrack but not like this.

Some examples:

Perturbator - Welcome To Nocturne City
Perturbator - Disco Girls
Perturbator - Vengeance

Though this has to be my favorite thus far: Perturbator - John Holmes VHS Nightclub

This is some good stuff in here... although I find it odd how youtube has become the accepted way to get people to listen to songs.

Because it's convenient, universal and allows a recommendation to be made without explicitly supporting Amazon or Apple.

But really because no one has told the RIAA that you can easily download things from Youtube.

Is Anamanaguchi technically 'synth?' I've never seen them live or anything, but my impression was that their music was made up of live instruments heavily processed using 8-bit sound chips. Am I mistaken?

Synth is a musical style similar to, but distinct from chiprock bands like Ana. Got its start in dance clubs and the like, and has since scored out a little niche for itself.

Just to clarify, I wasn't askng what synth was. I had seen an Anamanaguchi track posted in this thread and was wondering if others felt that, while their music is performed on actual instruments, the fact that the core elements of their sound more or less rely entirely on heavy digital processing may lead them to be considered a part of 'synth music,' to a greater extent than 'rock music.' Or whatever. I don't mean to let loose the lion, nor commence the head flyin, I just wanted to elucidate.

Hey, by the way.

The soundtrack for Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is being done by Power Glove.

You know, Power Glove. I'm excited about this turn of events.

Oh man, yes I forgot Faces. I wish these two had recorded more than 4 songs

That said, Faces is part of a fantastic synth compilation.

I only downloaded all their stuff recently because of these posts, but apparently they are putting the finishing touches on an album.

I can't get on Youtube but I recommend Talk Talk, the first two albums in particular. The rest isn't really the same but it is amazing anyway.

Would a Kavinsky mention be too obvious?

Always liked Colour of Spring the best, towing the line between the synthpop albums and the more free-form stuff that came after. Their career forms a perfect incremental line in that direction, and every album is pretty great.

I believe it's time we got real synthetic. Local record store never fails to disappoint with their krautrock selection. Harmonia! A short-lived supergroup from the 70s, composed of superlative musicians playing music which the qorld once found superfluous. Almost chiptune-y. Almost. Strains of Wendy Carlos and Can permeate. Can't find the full album; you will have to buy it like a human. Kliek hier.

I know I hardly ever come into the music subforum because you people are backwards fuckups, for the most part, but this is a Public Service Mission. If you ever cared about anything you will get the new Blastromen album that dropped today, named "Reality Opens". It's what the Daft Punk soundtrack for Tron should have been. It's fucking incredible.

Please. You come in here, put our collective musical taste on blast, and then peddle this generic ass shit? Keep walking. Unless I'm one of those people who's included excluded from in the "for the most part" exception, in which case we cool.

Gonna bump this thread because I can't stop listening to CHVRCHES - The Bones of What You Believe. I've just been looping the album for weeks and it never stops being wonderful.

I think this is my favourite on the album just by the amount of toe-tapping joy it brings me:

I love synth but there's something about Chvrches SO the wrong way and I can never figure out what it is. It's just...like, too...too safe? I guess is the best way to put it? I mean, I like synth pop, but it's almost TOO synth pop. It's just kinda uninteresting. I dunno, that's the best way I can explain it.

It's definitely safe but that doesn't turn me off of it at all. It scratches the same nerve for me that Tegan and Sara's Closer did.

Electric Youth's debut album Innerworld dropped last week. It is very good. You should probably get it if you've liked any tracks of theirs before.
