Have any of you guys seen the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes episodes? I'd consider them the best of the standard adaptations.

Practically lived off them back in the day - I think A&E was showing them for a long time on Saturday afternoons, and of course CBC and PBS aired a ton of them.

As noted, when I read the books I kind of realised Brett was a bit too old to be playing Holmes towards the end, but it wasn't Roger-Moore-in-Live-and-Let-Die levels of age dissonance.

Brett was very, very ill when they were filming the last series, struggling with heart problems and medication. It's no wonder he looks old and frail in those later stories. Although having said that, I'd no idea he was born in 1933.

Glad to see they're doing The Hound in the new series. Maybe it'll wash away the memory of that terrible Richard Roxburgh version

Hey for those with netflix, this is on instant watch now.

I finished this up a couple weeks ago and I loved pretty much everything about it. The first episode was great, second not so much, and third a roller coaster of thrills that were more intense than many movies.

I love that Cumberbatch's sherlock doesn't have underpinnings of sexuality like RDJ's did. It is very clear this Sherlock is a man who has way too many other important things going on in mind to bother with sexuality....or the solar system.

The mislead in the first episode of mycroft was brilliant. When he first dragged out Watson to a warehouse acting villainous I thought "moriarty in the first episode? what the hell?" but then the ending reveal of him being mycroft really shocked me. Watson's reaction mirrored mine almost entirely, quite amusing.

I can say without a doubt that I enjoyed this interpretation of Moriarty. He is indeed similar to John Simm's the master but I enjoy the crack tone of this voice. He sounds so insane that he can barely contain his excitement through the tone of his voice and like some others have mentioned, it is a great contrast to cumberbatch's deadpan.

He's definitely implied to be gay. Or at least, it's implied that people think he's gay.

I loved that episode. I am, however, looking forward to hopefully a more tight episode next week.

Edit: Just looked and it seems that the rest of this season will also be 90 minutes episodes. Hopefully it doesn't drag at all.

It's not even done airing on TV yet. Though maybe keep an eye on PBS. You might be able to watch it on there before Netflix gets it.

Thanks, was just coming here to ask this.

Now to see if I can hold off using a UK proxy server to watch online on the BBC website before then...

I'm sorry, I checked again and sherlock's air date on pbs is MAY 6th, not march as earlier reported. The poster regrets the error.

Just got to see it. So great. It's fantastic to see what they've done with Mycroft. He was hardly in the books.

I have a sudden terrible man crush on Irene Adler now.

Finally got to watch this a couple of days ago. Such good television.

I love how they have managed to merge old and new ideas.
