Default RIP George Michael

Via the BBC, Wham! singer and solo artist George Michael has passed away peacefully at his home, at the age of 53.

I'm a genuine and unabashed fan of George Michael so this is honestly hitting me pretty hard. And on Christmas, at that! Fuck.

RIP.

George Michael did the impossible and made a Christmas song I actually genuinely enjoy:

But his true career highlight has got to be the stunning, pioneering Wham! Rap:

"Arbitrary span of time," my ass. 2016 is out for blood.

Anyway... I could take or leave George Michael, but he did have an impact on my childhood and early teen years in the 1980s, as I'm sure he did many others. Plus I think one of his songs was sampled by fellow 2016 victim Prince Be, in one of his songs for PM Dawn. So this is unfortunate.

RIP George Michael

A song that kept playing on the radio like 4-5 years ago for some reason that I liked:

Yasumi Matsuno posted a link to this today in remembrance. I'd never heard it before. It's an amazing performance.

Dammit, 2016. You're a massive jerk.

Freedom '90 is like the platonic ideal of the ostentatious, over-the-top followup single to a huge hit album. It just keeps building to new great, ridiculous crescendos. I feel like Michael's career kind of simmered afterwards because there was no way he could have topped it. RIP
