We did it right after the end of the game, and then went "Nope, wouldn't have changed our strategy". The Quarantine 7 Faded Cities objective is a mug's game anyway. I don't think we've ever bothered to complete it.

And we're done.

560 points, lost both in November and won first in December. Didn't use the nuke, didn't need Team Bravo, did use Box 8. C0D4 blue was 100% hard mode, but we worked around the final search through clever use of the Operations Expert and the Dispatcher. The Generalist was pretty impressive, but the Operations Expert and the Quarabtine Specialist were our star players. The OE ability to get basically anywhere was invaluable, as was the QE ability to just shut down an arbitrary city.

I think it's a fantastic game. There's lots of cleverly integrated feedback loops, well-integrated narrative devices, and clever decision making.

We just started playing our copy, and it's not been going well. Three games in, three games lost. I've been keeping my strategic thoughts mostly to just my characters, because I know how much Pandemic can be dominated by a single player. The last game we got one disease eradicated, but forgot to keep CoDY in quarantine, and black ran out of cubes.

We'll see if we get through February without a win and get to open up the gimme some help bin.

Question: There was a win bonus card that gives you something if you win in January, but it says destroy this card only at the end of February. Is there some method that would allow this card to be used even if you lost in January?

Re: John's question - no; it's merely telling you the bonus would only be useful in February

Thanks for the info. It'll get torn up at the end of the next game, even though some of our players really want to scratch it off. (I will look up online what it says afterwards if they really want to know).

I don't mind that we're losing. I'm playing with casual players, and each game we're getting better. It's telling a good story, and even if the world ends up ravage by disease, we put up a good fight.

It's also worth noting that while the funded events mechanic tends to balance it out a little bit, Pandemic Legacy's default difficulty is a notch harder than the "normal" difficulty in Pandemic. It may be worth taking a break from Legacy and playing a couple games of regular Pandemic to get a feel for the flow of the game; while there's a lot of differences, the fundamentals remain the same.

I don't know -- strictly rules as written, I'd argue Legacy starts out easier than vanilla. You can select your roles and events, though depending on your player count and the expansions included, it might be fewer events than normal.

But the point stands: if you're failing the early game repeatedly, you might want to practice a bit. The game mostly just gets harder.

I just need to be more vocal (and tactful) on advice when I see someone doing something less than stellar, it's just tough when it's your wife.

Honey, I know you really want that Co-Worker relationship sticker to go on your character, but it would do no good for the Quarantine Specialist. Put it on the Researcher and Scientist. Ah great, it's already on your sheet, and the Medic. Why don't you spend the game farming cards to give to the Medic of all people. Oh, and while you're farming, the super virus goes out of control because you didn't Quarantine hardly anything. And you Medic, when you were trying to run to cities to grab cards, all those other cities went untreated, because you didn't do your job either.

Our game would be forever stuck at February. My wife has expressed interest in getting a second copy to play with the in-laws, so there may be hope for a parallel universe to survive.

One of the problems with co-op games is that a knowledgeable person can play for everyone. It's a tough line to walk.
