Shinji's fault!

re: zodar's rage: I am with you, man. I just don't know what to do about it. At this rate we're going to kill ourselves off and then things'll bounce back on their own, so in the long term it'll be okay.

In the long-long term, though, the Earth is going to be melted by the Sun.

I thought it was a toothpick, myself.

A toothpick for getting rid of the remains of scuba divers and bits of rubber stuck in its teeth. You know how nasty those can get without proper dental hygiene!

sorry, i just bug out a little when i feel like nature's getting taken for granted. i grew up reading about this shit, fascinated by the ocean, and the idea of it being destroyed terrifies me more than anything else in the world.

This one uppmanship between Shinji and Nunix is going to end with the servers that host these forums on fire and eveyone who posts here dead. MARK MY WORDS.

This is mostly based upon my assumption that someone is going to go mad trying to out creepy the shivfish.

Giant Sea Worm Unmasked as Coral Killer

That's right, it eats rocks. Also it's four feet long and "is covered with thousands of bristles which are capable of inflicting a sting resulting in permanent numbness".

"Barry" is not the name I would give a terrifying nightmare creature from Hell. That fucker's a Malphas, or a Valapar, or an Adremelech or some shit.

I'm not 100% convinced that can kill some of the things I've seen in this thread.

Huh, no one's posted pictures of the giant isopod yet!

This guy lives on the Atlantic abyssal plain and scavenges whale carcasses and other such putrefying treats.

This is the Brazillian wandering spider.

It likes to hide in cool dark places, like around bananas.

Or their shipping crates.

Or sometimes the bananas in the store.

Also, it is one of the most venomous spiders in the world and, as a bonus, it is fucking aggressively hostile to all life.

Sometimes they turn up in supermarkets.

Coconut crab! He's harmless, but terrifying.

Also weighs more than you.

That's because they're adorable.

And now, skulls! You guys can't find these things scary with no flesh on them, right?

Also, look at the cute little penguins.

So cute.

Edit: For Zodar.

The infamous "camel spider" pic where it looks like there are two nearly the size of a guy's thigh is fake, and they're basically harmless to humans (if they feel threatened or startled they might bite, but they're not poisonous), but I did see some pretty damn big (5-6 inch) solifugids in Iraq.

Actually, I'd rather have them around as they'd eat things like the tiny-ass little scorpions that are translucent and hard as hell to spot and ARE dangerous if they hole up in your discarded clothing/boot/box/wherever.

Then you have the sand flies, of course. Their bites are annoying, but the problem is the protozoa they carry around as parasites. Visceral Leishmaniasis with the attendant liver and kidney damage is more fatal, but cutaneous Leishmaniasis is not fun. Image is behind a link because most people don't want to look at open lesions. Remember, that's the effect of a critter that's literally microscopic and is in turn carried by a fly that's only a couple mm long:

In short, the big scary predators and even giant creepy crawly bugs don't bother me nearly so much as various LITTLE parasitic insects and micro-organisms.
