Default Get ready to never own one: SNES Classic

Coming out September 29th, apparently. Details to follow when I find more information besides Nintendo of America's tweet.

Full list of games:

Retails for $79.99, comes with two controllers. Controller cables are five feet long, compared to the NES Classic's three.

Yoshi's Island? Final Fantasy III and Secret of Mana?! Star Fox 2?!

Would swap CT for SoM, but I guess Square wants active brands on the system and also I don't want to complain too much because we're getting Square RPGs on it at all.

Also yeah, Day 1.

It sure is. Very little on there I have no interest in playing, and am struggling to think of stuff that should be there. Chrono Trigger, basically.

Wow, that's a really solid list. It's missing a few must-haves (no Chrono Trigger, and personally I can't think Super Nintendo without thinking of ActRaiser), but it's far better than it needs to be and there basically isn't a clunker on the list.

Pleas please please let them make more of these things than they made of the fucking NES Classic.

There is no law I would not break, no mortal sin I would not commit, no principle I would not betray to acquire one of these

I stand ready to hollow myself out for you, Nintendo

Make me a vessel for your glory

Based on the image in the tweet, it looks like it comes with two controllers? But the ports seem to be tiny SNES controller ports, so sadly they won't be compatible with any Wii/NES Classic controllers.

I already want one so bad.

Star Fox 2 alone makes me question the validity but boy would I like for this product to actually exist.

The NES Classic was a nice fantasy for us to cling to, but the time has come to put away such childish things as belief in it.

When can we pre-order one?

Also will SoM support 3 players?

It's real. It was announced with the above images on Nintendo of America's twitter account. Star Fox 2 as a retail product! Wow.

There are two unicorns on this list: Star Fox and Star Fox 2. No emulator in the universe has ever gotten Star Fox to run like it does on a real cartridge and that's probably why it never scored a VC release. And Star Fox 2? The only finished version of that game in the world is a rom hack. I can hardly believe Nintendo would put in the resources to get it fully tested and localized, unless they've been sitting on a complete English copy for 20 years that's managed to never, ever leak out.

Damn. What a solid list. Really glad they went through the effort to include as many of the good Super FX Chip games as possible.

Polygon's reporting it as coming direct from Nintendo. Good lord.

It's missing Chrono Trigger and DKC2, but otherwise pretty ideal.

I look forward to never owning one.

Let's be real here, the actual price is gonna run you something like $400 because scalpers are gonna be sniping these things before anyone else can find one.

Good gravy, but that's an excellent list. I own half of them, have beaten most of them, and I still covet this.

Man, am I glad my eternal disaffected stance re: Nintendo is a thing.

*Looks at the ad again* Man, I'm never even going to see one for realsies, am I?

The only games on that list I want to play but don't already have carts for are Super Mario RPG and Yoshi's Island. It's a pretty solid deal just for those two games though, so I'll have to think about this one.

I'm shocked that Nintendo knew the games people actually want to play. They didn't even try to put shit like Pilotwings on it, they're learning!

Also Yoshi's Island, which as far as I know has never been re-released (excluding the GBA port).

And, as the thread title says, I look forward to never owning one!

Earthbound! I mean just...

Yoshi's Island!

Final Fantasy 3!

Super Star AND Dream Course.

Mario RPG!

This is incredible. Pure gold through and through. Must haves, but wouldn't hope fors. It's just too much.

And if this is anything like NES Mini, you'll be able to put any SNES game you could ever want on it.

Out of that list (and obviously excluding Astral Vulpine the 2nd) I've never played the Kirbies, Earthbound, or SGG, but it's otherwise a near exact duplicate of my physical SNES cart collection. It's only missing Axelay, R-Type, and FFII.

I don't mind Chrono's absence because the DS port exists. And it's great they went with Turbo Hyper Fighting instead of Super. Can't wait to play SCV4 on HDMI!

It... is really happening.

It's REALLY HAPPENING?!?

Well, hopefully, Nintendo learns from their mistakes and actually produces an amount of these that comes at least halfway close to meeting demand.

I'm pretty sure the release of this will not meaningfully increase my odds of ever getting to actually play Star Fox 2, but nevertheless, fun to know there will be a few of these impossible treasure chests scattered across the world.

OR MORE OPTIMISTICALLY, maybe between Amiibos and NES Classic and the Switch, Nintendo's mortal terror of making something and it not selling has finally been cured and they'll be willing to go all-in and make a bunch of these.

Nintendo, it's okay! You can learn to trust again! I know not enough people got a Wii U, and that's sad, but you can start to believe in yourself now! Be free of past pains! Cast off your doubt!
