Oh god I've been waiting on this one forever.

Best hat is whichever you like best because there's someone who can just teach Pikachu Volt Tackle in Sun/Moon. Which means Original hat.

I don't think it's the game protag beret unfortunately. Just Ash's regular regional caps.

Why no Johto cap (or is that the same as the Kanto one)?

I'll have to remember to do this, I want that Pickashunium Z at least

I don't think Anime Ash got a redesign until what, D/P? And then started getting one every new generational series?

It's anime hats only, so there's nothing from Johto. All but the original are a ball cap with a poke ball motif on the front; the original instead has (hurriedly googling) that stylized "L" that stands for "League."

If you watched the anime, pick the one from your favorite season. Otherwise, pick the one with the best-looking color scheme.

The code DRACHE can now be used to get the last set of mega stones: Latios, Latias, Ampharos, and Altaria. This means all mega stones are now available in Sun and Moon.

The mega stone download codes will all expire October 31. Consult this handy guide and make sure you've got 'em all:

Original hat (9/19-9/25):

Hoenn hat (9/26-10/2):

Sinnoh hat (10/3-10/9):

Unova hat (10/10-10/16):

Kalos hat (10/17-10/23):

Alola hat (10/24-10/30):

Note that you can get only one of these hats. It is determined by the date on which you enter the mystery gift code PIKACHU20.

North Americans can now get a Marshadow code from Gamestops or whatever your local equivalent is. Is anybody planning to show up with a huge stack to give out to those who have no Gamestop to go to?

You can now get the Unova hat Pikachu.

I was gonna go get a Marshadow code, but then I decided I didn't want to. Maybe tomorrow. I'll see if I can get some spares.

I have exactly one spare Marshadow code left, and I'd like to give it to someone who has no access to a Gamestop-affiliated retailer. Who'll take it?

Of note:
Necrozma's new Z-moves have the same ability-bypassing effect as the signature moves of Solgaleo and Lunala
The Rotom-Dex can bestow powers (think like gen 6's O-Powers) and let you use Z-moves a second time in battle (campaign only)

Man, these things are getting *almost* as ridiculous as PS1-era FF summon animations.

Famitsu reports there's to be about twice as much story content, and you can get a bunch of random legendaries in a manner similar to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

SuMo 1 was already about 15 hours too long, so that's disappointing.

Aww, I liked its story! The pace felt snappier than other Pokemon games to me, what with the wider variety of things to do than just GO TO GYMS, nice visuals and pleasant locales with a strong identity and sense of place, and most importantly, the first game in the series with actual characters with arcs and development and depth and qualities that feel almost human-like as opposed to the blunt platitude-dispensers that eerily populated the other games. Also, Team Skull was fantastic, and the whole section with the town they took over was a high point of the series for me. And I loved Guzma's distinctive-ass battle theme.

Honestly, my only real issue with the story was that I felt like the ending came about too abruptly to it...not that I was like "This story as a whole easily needs twice as much room to breathe" or anything, but if this extra length does lead to the conclusion of the big battle against the antagonists being something more meaningful and climactic as opposed to just "Go get the two dumb reckless villains out of that stupid mess they got themselves into" (which is laudable and all, but maybe would have made more sense as a post-game thing), then good. It felt weird, because it seemed like the game was setting up for something more grand and cosmic as a final battle, but then any threat to the world or even the islands seems to get mitigated or ignored almost immediately. I honestly had very little sense of what the stakes were supposed to be during the big showdown with the antagonist, which was a shame, because the rest of the story was waaaaay more engaging than I'd been taught to anticipate from a Pokemon game. I get they were trying to go for something more personal I guess, and while that had a better chance of working than it would have in any other entry in the series, instead the big journey to the vast mysterious realm beyond the veil of conventional perception was just a confused and claustrophobic little non-sequitur before moving merrily along to the ELITE FOUR, WOO

Some stuff could definitely benefit from being fleshed out with that.

I'm fully on board with more story, especially since it's still written by the Delta Episode guy and therefore likely to be not just twice as substantial but also twice as gloriously stupid. We've got a whole new villain team, even.
