Let's ballpark it around 10 hours or so?

Also, JBear, I hope you've been doing the caching quests. The ultimate reward for them is...well.

You'll like it.

It has an activity log for friends. You can't view your own?

Man, I think I'm already up to twice that? It feels like it, anyway. I'll check when I get home.

I have been doing all the quests. I have 4 coins ATM; presumably the 5th will reveal itself to me soon.

1) Rounds to the lowest five-hour multiple
2) Only works after owning the game for ten days, apparently.

EDIT: For example, when I search your Switch ID, all the system tells me is "First played Golf Story 7 days ago."

You're searching my Switch ID but not sending a friend request?

Man, the bandana solution is very obvious in retrospect. I even remember looking at the thing for it beforehand and thinking it was probably significant for something.

Are there any hints in game for the cache quest? The quest giver just keeps demanding his five coins.

There are cachers in each of the zones, and each cache they're looking for has a cache coin

Just to be clear, each of those cachers will provide a hint to find their cache, so just keep talking to everyone and you'll come across the cache clues eventually. No need to pixel hunt as I first feared might be the case. In fact, I suspect that you need to find the cacher before the hot spot will even spawn.

You definitely do; one zone's cache is so easy to find that I was wandering around there poking around before I even found the cacher, and I got no dig prompt or anything until after talking to them.

I can't wait for Galf's inevitable inclusion in the next GDQ.

I can't decide if you're trolling or not.

I got the legendary caching coin, but I can't see anything obvious to do with it? I quit for the night soon after, so maybe something will present itself as I further the plot.

Somewhere, you can trade it for something.

Yeah, I got there eventually. Incidentally, my Switch is reporting that I've played this for "at least 15 hours" and I'm still not done.

Was anyone able to find a weird space hole in Blue Moon Dunes? I'm pretty sure that I've found one at every other course, but there's no sign of one here.

I don't think I saw one. I was as curious about it as you.

So it turns out that Golf Story land was Australia all along. Sure, okay, why not?

Clocked in at a bit over 20 hours, it looks like, which was about twice as long as I expected, but it stayed fun from start to finish. What a surprising little gem of a game. I can't wait to see what these folks do next.

ETA: Has anyone tried the multiplayer at all? Seems like it'd be pretty fun, but now that I've spent 20 hours with the thing I'm worried that I'd trounce anyone that I tried to play it with.

I haven't, and I'm happy to play a few rounds if you've got a time.

Wait wait wait wait. It has online multiplayer? I assumed it was just local.

I'm finding this game fairly frustrating, and can't really grasp how to figure out where my shots are going to land. Wind is especially hard to account for because I don't know what 3 yard wind means in pixels. Just tried the "shape your shot" quest in the third country club and I couldn't figure it out at all. The landing preview just swung around wildly when I changed the hit point. How do I shape my shot?

Wind: I've found looking at the particles blowing about a better indicator of how wind will affect your shot than the meter. "3yr" really doesn't mean anything. It's just something you'll have to get a feel for.

Shaping: Hit X to go into Hit Point mode and then you can chose where on the ball you want to strike. This won't change where the ball lands, but it's behavior in the air. Hitting the ball near the top will cause it to fly lower and bounce further when it lands. Hitting it near the bottom will cause it to fly higher, be affected by wind more, and not bounce as far. Left or right will cause it to do a curving arc, still landing in the same place, but letting you hit around obstacles or make the ball bounce in a certain direction.

FWIW, I found that shape your shot quest on Cheekybeak Peak to be more about hitting it over trees (so setting your hit point low on the ball) and letting the wind carry it around stuff than putting any sort of curve on the ball, which never really worked for me.

I just tried the quick play and I didn't see an option for online play, just local 2P play. You can play Galf from there too, or play any course with different wind speeds or green slopes, or play everything with giant holes.

Mega Eagles are fun to get.

When I used the curving shots, it was rarely for getting around obstacles. It was to change which direction the ball would bounce and roll toward once it hit the ground.

Anyway slope is even worse than wind and the way it's shown is garbage.

This was an issue that I saw cited in most of the reviews that I read, but it was never really a problem for me? I just seemed to have an intuitive understanding of the different slopes, and my green game is on point. I mean, the game does give you lots of opportunity to practice and learn how the various slopes influence your shots with the quests. I've kind of always hated contour lines and I prefer this quite a bit.

The issue is that you only see the slope for where the target is. Some of the greens don't have a uniform slope, and at that point, you might as well just pull out your wedge and chip it in.

That only happens very, very rarely though (I think I can think of, like, two greens in the entire game without uniform slopes?), and you can just move the cursor around.

The bigger issue for me is the one or two greens where the slope display was bugged. In particular, during the Blue Moon Dunes putting challenge, one of the greens in the middle (Hole 4, IIRC?) goes from suppressing the slope display UI element entirely (only time I've ever seen it blank) to out-right lying to you.

I just found this cute little note at the end of a Golf Story article and thought I'd share it here:

Quote:
If you end up giving Golf Story a try, do me a favor and play with the Joy-Cons detached, sans grip or Pro Controller. Then hit a ball off the map and hold the Joy-Cons up on either side of your head, next to your ears. You'll hear an odd little noise, like a cartoon coyote falling off a cliff. But the Joy-Cons don't have speakers… it's using HD rumble to make that weird little slide whistle sound! Like those floppy disk drives that people rig up to play music! I love it so much.
Neat!

You guys blew my mind with the focus thing. I'm about to go to the dunes and never knew it was available to me.

I'm having a hard time getting good accuracy with my irons. Any tips?

I put backspin on pretty much every approach shot. Makes it far less likely to go flying past the green.

By that, do you mean hitting the ball from the top in hit point mode?
