Now I'm hoping for a piece on Monster Tale sometime in Series 3 of Video World. I like the game but want to hear your thoughts on it in more detail.

Nice vid, too. I've never played these, and now I'm curious.

Nice one, Stu. While we were watching it, my son expressed his awe that you manage to do these videos without reading off a script. You've got a flow.

I feel like I'm watching a Nintendo Direct. "The next Franchise and Lows will be available...right now."

Monster Tale is basically for me a game they sort of gave up on. It's got decent traversal and the combat is okay but there is just so much backtracking it gets numbing. I did finish it though so it can't have been all bad.

I don't disagree with you. The backtracking is pretty tedious (easily the biggest strike against it). Especially because you have to keep redoing bypassing obstacles each time. I was hoping Ultimate would fix those issues (among others), but Dreamrift has been dead silent for quite a while now so I don't think it's gonna happen. Good but flawed game, for sure, but I like its pluck.

Did you identify the game that you're playing at the end while you gave the channel update? It looks pretty bad.

It appears to be a bootleg NES version of Mickey Mania.

Loved the episode, by the way. And I'd heard the Castle remake was relisted on Steam, but I didn't realize it was back on PSN as well. I'm having that.

I'll be honest and say that this one held my interest for a bit, and then I got pretty bored about 10 minutes in. You were talking about all the good graphics and sound in the SMS Illusion games, and they did look nice, but the footage was a bit dull. It's just because there's so many leafy green forest stages that it all blends together a bit too much.

So it wasn't anything you were saying, it was just the longplay clips you were using. Still think these games would be pretty fun to play, though.

I have to agree. I don't think this is my best episode, largely because the games are so similar to each other and I don't think there's a lot to say about them, with hindsight. I'm really sorry about that. I'm concerned that the Asterix episode would be much the same. I'll try to do better in future.

Oh wow, I haven't thought about Land of Illusion in forever, but I played the hell out of it on Game Gear. After watching F&L I went and found a full playthrough on Youtube and watched it. That was an intense bomb of nostalgia. Thanks!

Franchise and Lows: The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy will most likely be out on Sunday. It includes 8 games across 6 formats. It was going to be out yesterday, but the N.Sane Trilogy itself actually came out and I decided to cover it in the video.

I have to admit I've always been lukewarm on Crash but man Twinsanity looked really awesome. That's a really impressive looking game for it's generation. Great video!

It's actually pretty hilarious that you control a cartoon dustball fight.

Thank you for the good video. I may never be able to get past Crash's art design, but it's nice to know the games are out there, being good.

I confess I never made it past the first dustball segment (fell off a ledge twice and moved on with my life). Glad to hear the rest of the game is good, I'll dust off the ps2 one of these days and try again.

I love the sound effects in all these Crash games. Feels like Looney Tunes.

Oh wow. I'd watched some of your Let's Plays in the past, but had somehow managed to completely miss that you had started doing longer videos focusing more on criticism*. The Crash video was very good and informative - I came away with some strong games to check out, having only played the original and Warped and skipping, it seems, the high point of the series. I look forward to listening to you talk more about other games!

*meant in the sense of looking at how things hang together, of course, rather than in the sense of doing a Game Grumps.

Psst.

Video World will return for Series 3 at the end of August. Or earlier, if it gets done.

Franchise & Lows: Duke Nukem will be this month.

It's a satire entitled Sonic is Fucking Shit and If You Like It You Deserve to Die
