Default Good Eats, 1999-2012

So an Era ends. No more styrofoam models of starch molecules or giant size bacteria making sourdough. Lord knows I'm going to miss it, but at least it went out on it's own terms.

Did anyone see the final episode? I missed it myself.

We don't have cable, so no.

I wish Food Network would get serious about releasing full seasons on DVD.

This show ended? That's unfortunate. I haven't watched Food Newtork in a long time, but when I did, it was because of this show.

I didn't even realize it was still on! I assumed he stopped it when he started doing the Iron Chef stuff years ago.

I loved the science behind the shows but whenever he tried to make a show have a plot it was like nails on a chalkboard.

Great cookbooks, though.

There's so many things he didn't cover! But I guess that's another show.

Is he going to have another show? Why would he do this? I guess he could be busy with ICA but I don't know why he'd pick that over his own show...

Thirteen years is a pretty long run in a single format. I'm sure he's eyeing other projects besides ICA, but who knows what they'll be...

Based on comments on his twitter feed, I got the impression it wasn't his idea to pull the plug. Like VV, I always enjoyed the science-y bits that leavened the cookery.

Good Eats always seemed like a very well-done show whenever I chanced to watch an episode. Sad to hear that it's done but I hope Alton Brown gets a chance to continue doing his thing in some other venue.

Good Eats is over?

I wish I had known it was ending. I would like to have tuned in. His episode on cheesecake was the flashpoint that led me to culinary school.

Iron Chef and Feasting On ______, put together, are not half the show Good Eats was. It brought the science. Here's hoping the show was canned for better reasons than "we needed the space for another show where chefs get voted off for not being perfect".

Also, it was obvious to me that Alton's local megamart was a Publix. That always made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Yeah, I think this about sums it up for me; the show was awesome and I loved his take on cooking. The only other food show that I made a point to watch was Emeril Green on Planet Green, thought it has been a while for that too.

I read somewhere that Alton decided to end the show because it was meant to be a basic cooking primer, and he's pretty much covered all of the basics. Continuing would mean either rehashing stuff we've already learned or doing such obscure food that he doesn't think it would be useful.

Man, I haven't made his baked mac and cheese in like forever. This needs to happen.

interestingly, it seems Food Network has told AB to put up or shut up regarding The Next Food Network Star . He'll be mentoring his own 5 man team through the gauntlet .

He always seemed annoyed to me whenever he was on that show, like he didn't want to be there.

It sure as hell felt like that attempt at an Iron Chef America revival was destined to fail, and since game theory junkies have more than enough Cutthroat Kitchen for their lifetimes, it's good that he's bringing Good Eats back.

(Although I think he thought the series was done, as the final episode was the BBQ special, which paid off the long-running "but that's another show" joke.)

So hyped for new Good Eats! Now if Food Network would just re-release the DVDs of the show's original run by season instead of by topic. I got really excited when S1 and 2 DVDs randomly showed up at Target a few years back, but it seems those were the only two seasons that got an official release.

FYI: tracking back, it appears that this is going to be entirely online, which will allow AB to tackle topics that Food Network had said were off-limits.

In other words: the bunny is gonna diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie.
