If I read his assessment correctly he liked a couple of the throws in the beginning and he was trying to be polite about the rest of it.

also watched Alpha Female vs. Reina Miura. Miura's cornrow game is on point but anyone who can throw a straight right hand puts her to sleep.

http://deadspin.com/boxing-is-bettin...hua-1794721752

Who at Matchroom bribed Deadspin to provide this ongoing series of textual blow jobs to Joshua?

If I could find a casino here in Montego Bay with a sports book I'd put money on Klitshko just out of spite for reading this bullshit.

With Tyson Fury well on his way to sudden death by simultaneous diabetic attack and cocaine OD, the boxing business is scared shitless looking down the barrel of another Klitschko championship run.

It's not like anyone gave a shit about Fury outside the UK either.

But... seriously? Joshua as a billion dollar fighter? I damn near dropped out of my chair with laughter when I heard that. I know UK fight fans are easily misled with false hope before their guys are led like lambs to slaughter (see: Bruno, Frank; see also Hatton, Ricky), but... this is just weird.

You apparently no longer have to worry about this? Deadspin was all aflutter about Klitschko losing.

Ricky Hatton was a damn fine fighter and I'll countenance no disrespect to him.

e: Joshua is a strong fighter, but God damn how hard did Corrie Sanders hit to put Wlad on his ass.

I specifically refer to that time the Brits were sold the line that Hatton was a threat to Floyd.

I mean... Canucks didn't buy into Patrick Cote having a shot against Anderson, y'know?

Anyway, let's see how far the sheer force of patriotism and a withered husk of a division can take a guy.

He'll cash in on another sold-out arena if Fury can somehow dry out long enough to make weight and be wheeled into the ring. Beyond that...well, Deontay Wilder's people won't let him near Joshua, I'll tell you that for nothing.

Fury didn't even get to losing the belt in a fight before going down the Buster Douglas path of bad lifestyle choices and diabetes, so if Joshua repeats that, do we finally close the casket on heavyweight boxing as a possible draw?

Barry Hearn is a very intelligent man who turned a ginger snooker robot and made millions.

His son... probably still better than most boxing promoters. Joshua will be protected, since there are no HW contenders who can demand terms at this stage.

I doubt anyone outside the UK will notice, however.

Any challenger with sense goes to the UK to fight him anyway. The biggest arena a heavyweight bout could fill in the states is...not very big.

In the states, Steve Cunningham couldn't fill a bingo hall. In Germany he could fill arenas. Boxing is definitely doing better overseas right now.

Four of Deontay Wilder's last five title defenses were in Birmingham, Alabama.

Hard to judge Canelo's chances based on last night. He looked good against a guy who was there to get beat and take home his retirement money. Wish I'd bet the over on rounds.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. never wanted to be a boxer, but he never wanted to learn another trade either. Good riddance.

So do you guys think Canelo takes a page from Daniel Jacobs and agrees to fight for the IBF title, only to not show for the second weigh in on the day of the fight for the size advantage?

That's the play I'd make.

Interesting note from last night's execution of Chavez the Lesser: Chavez making weight moved the line from 12:1 to 3:1. I imagine there is no joy in Culiacan this weekend.

A lot of the boxing press were hoodwinked, too. The cynical view is they were just part of the hype machine, but I think everybody wanted to believe that this was gonna be a real fight instead of just a show.

At the moment Canelo/GGG is allegedly for all the belts, but yeah, dodging the IBF's 10-pound rule is presumably gonna be SOP for anybody who fights Golovkin going forward. A guy at Canelo's level these days doesn't have any use for any belts, let alone a second-rate belt in a weight class that he'd rather not fight in. The question is only whether he wants to reinflate above 170, which he probably does.

in other news from Vegas this weekend, Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward were both in town to see the fight and record a "Face Off" segment as part of the hype for their upcoming rematch on HBO. Kovalev broke his training camp in Big Bear to make the trip. HBO's crew was all set up for a shoot on Sunday afternoon...and it turned out Ward skipped out and left town Sunday morning. Word is the brass at HBO are pissed.

Not that this is an occurrence of any great importance to the the fight fan, but it resulted in this amazing photo of Kovalev on Twitter:

he's killed a man in the ring. he wears Mr. Rogers cardigans.

Man, remember the Super Six tournament?

This is not a rhetorical question, I need to know. I hypothesize that some benevolent cosmic force wiped Super Six from living memory for the good of all humanity.

Ward successfully erased almost all traces of the Super Six by spending the next 30 months or whatever in court with Gary Shaw. Or Dan Goossen? Some fucking promoter or another, the details are mercifully fuzzy.

Makes me idly recall the Strikeforce GP, and how someone cleaned up on the "tournament won by none of the above" parlay.

The ref probably did, because that thing was clearly uncompetitive before it even hit double-digits. Most sane refs would've found an excuse to stop it at that point.

Giving GGG a run for his money on the "looks harmless, is actually f'ing terrifying" scale.

You will be stunned to know, that, after Meltzer reported it yesterday evening (while I was flying back home), GSP / Bisping is officially off.

There's been a lot of chatter just now about matchmaking considerations running at cross-purposes with WME-IMG's desperate need for cash to pay the vig on its loans, but I haven't paid close enough attention to the UFC in a while to parse it all.
