Thirded, I mean he was mostly amusing, but can you imagine having him act that way for the hour or two that a lot of board games take?

Looking forward to the next episode, and I have to say that he has a pretty good selection of guests.

My issue was mostly with the intro and wrap-up. The stuff in the middle wasn't as bad.

Smallworld is indeed fun, although as I mentioned earlier, I only learned it recently and that was a crazy game with every expansion in play. This looked ludicrously simple in comparison.

For me it was a bit of both, the intro and wrap-up was pretty heavy-handed, but the middle parts were still a bit thick for me as well at times, probably because the rest of the group mainly trash talked, so Wheaton's schtick felt a little out of place. In a different group it probably wouldn't have stuck out for me.

EDIT: Actually something from Reddit that makes me feel a bit better:

That's encouraging. I will say this: one of my favourite things about Wheaton is that even though his schtick can be a bit annoying at times, it doesn't feel like an affect. I believe that's actually his personality.

Default Is this book really worth this much?

Call of Cthulhu's Beyond the Mountains of Madness super campaign book is going on Amazon.com right now for $135.00 used and over $500 new. I have this book. It is unused?!

This can't be right can it?

Can it?

The guy who made 1960 and Twilight Struggle has a new game about the fall of the Berlin Wall and collapse of the USSR. I'm buying it as soon as I see a copy on a shelf.

The Wiz-War reprint is also out. I played the 1983 edition of the game and can vouch that it is incredibly fun.

Did you know that if you read the pulp being put out by Fantasy Flight Press you can get access to free new cards for their games?! (well, you have to pay for shipping...)

I've got two of them so far, and while the variant rule looks awful, the ally card is great.

I've got 4 of the books that offer the free cards but I haven't pulled the trigger because I don't want to write out multiple checks.

good news! Just write out one and throw all the forms in the same envelope. That is what I did. I called their support number and the woman on the line told me it was fine that they could be combined.

Tomorrow I'm attending a Warlord tournament just down the road from my house. Between local attendance issues and a recent announcement that there won't be any more cards printed, I have a feeling this will be one of the last major tournaments for the game (on the West Coast, anyway; from what I hear the East Coast's player base is a lot more concentrated and gets together for giant games).

The thing is... I'm going in with an untested deck I threw together while sleep-deprived a couple days ago. It's based on the deck that took second place at last year's GenCon, but my collection is missing a lot of the actual kill cards from that deck so I had to improvise about a third of the deck list.

On the other side of the table will be some of the most famous Warlord players, including the biggest name in Warlord playtesting (who wears a shirt to tournaments that says "[his name] is OP" and people are trying to convince to keep the game going by doing a Kickstarter to buy the rights) and the primary distributor for North America (who... ok, actually, I've beaten him plenty of times in the past; we're pretty evenly matched in both skill level and why we play the game).

I don't know where I'm going with this, it just kinda struck me all at once when I got home from work this morning that I'm about to go up against champion-level players with a deck that's designed more to irritate than to kill. That's probably the most I can expect from my tiny card pool anyway. =(

Is anyone familiar with Shogun: Tenno's Court? We've played the base game for a bunch of times now, and some change might be in order.

I'm planning on attempting to run an Android game on the forums. I'm trying to figure out the logistics of the whole thing. If anyone wants in, I need three other people that are will to learn/play the game.

FYI, FFG's Android

You're the last. I'm still working out how to do all of this, so it will be a while before we start. As soon as I'm ready, I'll message everyone and then we'll "solve" a murder.

In the meantime, we players should read the rules so we're not going into this thing blind!
