Default You say Potato, I say Potato Chips

The day is winding down here and I was munching on some chips on break when I realized they just weren't that good. They were a lame no name brand (or no name worth mentioning anyway) and those are always blech. Since there was a Dorito thread awhile back, I feel this subform needs a potato chip thread to compliment it.

And don't tell me they're the goddamn same thing. They're as different as, well, potatoes and corn.

For me, the best chips in the whole entire universe are Ruffles Sour Cream and Bacon. I especially love buying the larger bags and getting to the broken-up chips at the very bottom, little flakes of flavor.

Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion are acceptable in absence of the superior SCnB. I used to prefer the Onion variety, but Bacon has grown on me much more these days.

Chips I could never ever stomach? Salt and Vinegar. Yuck.

Hows about you guys? What's your favorite flavor? I left brands out of the poll because there's a bajillion of them, but it always comes down to some variation of these flavors.

I like pretty much any brand's sour cream and onion and barbecue flavors, and I really like black pepper. Trader Joe's has THE BEST barbecue chip.

Salt and vinegar is a close second to sour cream and onion. I love a tart beginning with a savory finish.

Sour Cream and Onion, closely edging out a good BBQ flavour.

Sour cream and onion for sure. If it isn't available, I'm a big fan of dip or lacking that cheddar or sour cream and cheddar. Ruffles are my favorite as they feel more substantial. Really thin chips just feel too immaterial and greasy for me.

I'm all about salt and vinegar kettle chips these days, but I'll go for a good black pepper as well.

My favorite ever were Eagle Extra Crunchy, but...

i can't stand salt and vinegar chips. they have a strange astringency to them that makes them totally unpalatable.

Had to go with sour cream and onion, though I admire salt and vinegar's audacity and am pleased to see it out in front (as of this posting).

I admit, I'm kinda surprised to see these results so far. I've always found Salt and Vinegar to be absolutely vile, and I'm pretty amazed that Ketchup hasn't even gotten a single vote.

Kinda wish I could've expanded the poll a bit more, I just remembered Dill Pickle and Ranch flavors. There's just so many.

I only really like Pringles, which are not legally allowed to call themselves potato chips. disqualified!!

I miss the crazy stupid restaurant appetizer flavors they were selling for a while, which were ten times more delicious than they had any right to be.

I had a hard time choosing between "plain with dip" and "salt and vinegar". But then I had to be honest with myself: Peanut hates salt and vinegar, so I'll never get to eat them ever again. They may as well not even exist.

Plain with dip it is!

Sour cream and cheddar!

Plain with dip isn't a bad option, except for the problem where there's either not enough dip or not enough chip to have them both together. And that's not even getting into all of the dip flavour options!

Ketchup. Ketchup. Ketchup.

Plain plus dip is also pretty good, I guess.

I'll tell you this: the Famous Dave's BBQ chain has some pretty okay things on their menu. But when you go there you get a big tray of warm, thick, homemade BBQ potato chips to sample all the different BBQ sauces at the table. And I could easily make a meal of that myself.

That's what she said.

I've never tried any sour cream or BBQ flavor that didn't taste like artificial bullshit. Salt and vinegar is delightful or just a plain straight-up chip. Also, no friggin' ridges. Mrs. Match loves the ones that Kishi linked. I just think they're okay.

They're terrible for you but when I do decide to pig out oh my god they're like crack. Funny thing is, I pretty much hate every other chip with a "sour cream" flavor.
